The 2022 Oscars were wild from beginning to end as some of Hollywood’s most highly-regarded filmmakers came together to celebrate cinema. And while most people are talking about the slap heard around the world, Marvel fans can’t get over Zack Snyder’s Justice League winning Oscars Cheer Moment.

The 2022 Oscars introduced two new fan-voted categories

The Academy Awards have experienced a decline in ratings over the past few years. As a result, the academy introduced two new categories for the 2022 awards show — Oscars Cheer Moment and Oscars Fan Favorite. They believed that the awards could attract a few more eyeballs to the telecast.

Fans got the chance to vote for the scene that made them cheer the most in theaters and their favorite movie of 2021. From Feb. 14 till March 3, anyone could vote via the Oscars website. Or they could use the #OscarsFanFavorite and #OscarsCheerMoment hashtags to submit their ballots.

The two new categories immediately attracted superhero fans. Many people took to Twitter to express their support for Spider-Man: No Way Home and Avengers: Endgame. However, Zack Snyder’s Justice League snuck up on the popular Marvel films and took home the Oscar.

‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ won Oscars Cheer Moment

The academy announced the winner of the Oscars Cheer Moment during the live ceremony on March 27 by showing clips from the top five vote-getters.

Per ComicBook.com, The Matrix came in fifth place with Neo’s slow-motion bullet dodge. Jennifer Hudson’s character Effie singing “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going” in Dreamgirls finished in fourth place. Captain America’s “Avengers Assemble” moment in Avengers: Endgame came in third place.

Spider-Man: No Way Home finished in second place with the three Spider-Men team-up. And Zack Snyder’s Justice League won the Oscar for the scene when The Flash enters the Speed Force.

DC fans are clearly an unstoppable bunch since they beat out two Marvel Cinematic Universe films. But when thinking about it, Zack Snyder’s Justice League‘s Oscar win isn’t all that surprising. Fans are why the movie exists in the first place after they persisted that Warner Bros. release original director Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League.

Marvel fans are angry about ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ winning the Oscar

When the 2022 Oscars announced that Zack Snyder’s Justice League won Oscars Cheer Moment, fans immediately jumped on Twitter to express their disappointment. Many believed that Avengers: Endgame or Spider-Man: No Way Home should have taken home the award.

One person wrote, “Did they really just say the flash running was more iconic than three live-action spidermen in one movie…”

“OK, I don’t get offended by much BUT HOW IS THE FLASH THE NUMBER ONE MOST CHEERABLE MOMENT ABOVE SPIDER-MAN AND AVENGERS ASSEMBLE,” another fan shared. “I’m sorry, I just couldn’t sit back and watch that happen without saying something.”

A baffled fan also tweeted, “The [Oscars] giving Snyder Cut the biggest cheer moment over Avengers: Endgame??”

“The flash in no f**king way is better than seeing three generations of Spider-Man or seeing the avengers squad back together,” one person concluded. “Y’all really be having us, the fans, f’**ked up.”

People are still raving over the “Avengers Assemble” moment from Avengers: Endgame almost three years after the movie’s premiere. As a result, Marvel fans are confused and angry that the scene came in third place.

And most people credit Spider-Man: No Way Home with saving cinema. The MCU film earned over $1.8 billion at the box office. And it brought people back to the movies during a pandemic. So fans are upset that Spider-Man: No Way Home didn’t earn any praise at the 2022 Oscars and Zack Snyder’s Justice League did.
