‘Outer Banks’: 5 Shows to Watch While You Wait for Season 2
The Outer Banks cast has wrapped on season 2, which means it’s only a matter of time before fans get to see John B. (Chase Stokes) again. Here are five shows fans of Outer Banks can stream while waiting for Netflix to release season 2.
‘The O.C.’
The O.C. aired on FOX from 2003 until 2007. The teen drama follows Ryan Atwood (Ben McKenzie), an outcast like John B. and his Pogue pals. In the series, Ryan is taken in by the wealthy Cohen family, befriends the quirky Seth Cohen (Adam Brody), and falls in love with Marissa Cooper (Misha Barton).
While you wait for Outer Banks to return, regale in the early 2000s nostalgia The O.C. provides. From the music to the fashion and the awkward flirting, Outer Banks fans will love the teens of Orange County, California. HBO subscribers can stream The O.C. on HBO Max.
‘The Glades’
This crime drama has everything Outer Banks does, minus the Kooks and Pogues. The Glades aired initially on A&E from 2010 until 2013. The series follows Jim Longworth (Matt Passmore), a former Chicago cop who moves to a small town in Florida and joins the state police for what he thinks will be a simpler life. But the murder rates in southern Florida are through the roof, leaving Longworth busier than he ever was in Chicago.
Outer Banks fans will appreciate the mystery woven into The Glades. Stream the series with a Hulu subscription or through Apple T.V.
‘Riverdale’
They don’t call Riverdale “the town with pep” for nothing! Riverdale follows Archie Andrews (K.J. Apa), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse), and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) as they navigate high school and the many mysteries that befall their town.
Outer Banks fans will love the teen angst and dark twists and turns Riverdale takes. Stream older seasons of Riverdale on Netflix or watch the series with a subscription to Hulu or YouTube T.V. Riverdale is currently on a break, but new episodes will resume in August.
‘Cruel Summer’
From executive producer Jessica Biel, Cruel Summer is a teen drama thriller that will keep Outer Banks fans on the edge of their seats. The story is told in snippets spanning three days in 1993, 1994, and 1995. When the beloved and popular Kate Wallis disappears without a trace, Jeanette Turner’s life and the lives of those around her are completely altered.
Outer Banks fans will love the gorgeous cast, including Olivia Holt, Chiara Aurelia, Froy Gutierrez, Sarah Drew, Harley Quinn Smith, Mika Abdalla, and Allius Barnes. The Freeform series is available for streaming on-demand or through Hulu, Sling T.V., fuboTV, Google Play, and Apple T.V.
‘The Goonies’
OK — technically, this is a movie, but it has the same adventurous spirit as Outer Banks! John B. and the Pogues are reminiscent of the cast in this iconic ’80s film from Chris Columbus and Steven Spielberg.
When a band of kids from the “Goon Docks” try to save their homes from foreclosure, they discover an old treasure map that takes them on the adventure of a lifetime in search of One-Eyed Willy’s long-lost fortune. Outer Banks fans can stream The Goonies on fuboTV, YouTube, iTunes, Apple T.V., or Vudu. The Goonies is also available to those with a Philo subscription or for purchase through Amazon and Google Play.
When will ‘Outer Banks’ Season 2 come out?
At this time, Netflix hasn’t provided a release date for the second season of Outer Banks. The first season premiered in April 2020, keeping many of us entertained during the early days of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
April 2021 has come and gone, and filming on season 2 has wrapped, so Netflix could release the episodes any day now. Stay tuned to Showbiz Cheat Sheet for updates.
