‘Outer Banks’: Chase Stokes Just Confirmed This Fan Theory About Him and Madelyn Cline
Outer Banks fans know and love the on-screen romance between the adventurous John B and Sarah Cameron. Fortunately for fans, Netflix heartthrob Chase Stokes has confirmed something Outer Banks viewers have been speculating all along.

In season 1 of the Netflix series Outer Banks, Stokes and Cline play John B and Sarah Cameron, respectively. The teen drama follows John B, a Pogue from the poor side of the island who is desperate to know what happened to his missing father, Big John. Along the way, he falls in love with Sarah Cameron, a rich girl with a desire to live life outside of wealth and privilege.
Together, John B and Sarah Cameron hunt for the $400 million in gold Big John was after. Despite coming from different worlds and Sarah Cameron having a boyfriend, the two fall in love as they discover they share more in common than they thought.
Before ‘Outer Banks,’ Chase Stokes was in a serious relationship
For almost 10 years, Stokes dated model Xiomara Montalvo. According to Elite Daily, the two moved to California to pursue their respective careers but eventually decided to separate. Montalvo’s Facebook page puts her in a relationship with tattoo artist Diego Jiménez since April 2020.
The breakup hit Stokes hard. “I went through a breakup a little bit before quarantine, and it was with somebody I’d been with for almost 10 years,” Stokes told New York Magazine. “I’ve been writing about it, drawing inspiration from the isolation of quarantine — there’s a similar kind of heartbreak involved.” Stokes used poetry to cope with the end of his relationship, thanks to friend and fellow artist Cody Simpson.
‘Outer Banks’ fans thought Stokes and Cline were dating a while ago
When the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic first began, the cast of Outer Banks was quarantined together. In an interview with E-News, the cast explained how being quarantined with each other was better than being alone, especially when the Netflix series premiered. Regardless of who else was living with them, fans could only focus on Cline and Stokes. He moved into Cline’s apartment along with a few other castmates, including Drew Starkey, who plays Rafe Cameron in the series.
Rumors about Stokes and Cline had started flying when he left flirty comments on one of Cline’s Instagram posts. When she shared photos from her shoot with 1883 Magazine in April 2020, Stokes commented: “Heart rate… decreasing.. help.” This sent Outer Banks fans into a frenzy, so Stokes added: “Man, I really stirred the pot here, didn’t I?” Despite the fan theories, Cline and Stokes have kept their relationship under wraps — until now.
Chase Stokes confirmed he and Madelyn Cline are a couple
Initially, Outer Banks fans thought the chemistry between Stokes and Cline was only for the show. On June 14, Stokes confirmed their relationship on Instagram with a post captioned: “Cat’s outta the bag.” The post featured two photos from an ocean-front meal the two shared, including a picture of a smiling Cline holding up a bottle of wine.
Castmates and fans celebrated the duo’s newly minted relationship. “Topper punching the air rn,” Cline wrote jokingly, referring to her on-screen boyfriend. She added, “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.” Jonathan Daviss wrote, “Well it’s about time,” complete with three red heart emojis. Rudy Pankow also commented: “Boom!!” Austin North, who plays Topper, even had something to say, writing: “YES SIR.”
Fans are excited to see their theory confirmed, and even more excited to watch Cline and Stokes’ relationship blossom.
