Throughout season 1 of Outer Banks, the on-screen chemistry between Stokes and Cline is evident. The show tells the story of John B, a Pogue from the poor side of town, who goes on a treasure hunt to find $400 million in gold. Along the way, he falls in love with a rich girl, Sarah Cameron, who longs for a life outside of wealth and privilege. Joining John B in his quest for the Royal Merchant gold, Sarah Cameron falls in love and ultimately chooses a boy over her father.
Stokes and Cline perfectly capture the fast-falling teens in the series. Their chemistry on-screen left many fans wishing the two were a couple in real life.
Chase Stokes spread the love on Instagram
Stokes is an incredibly supportive co-star. He often comments on Cline’s Instagram posts. There was one comment in particular that sent fans reeling. When Cline shared a photo from her shoot for 1883 Magazine, Stokes commented: “Heart rate… decreasing.. help.” The dating rumors started to circulate, so Stokes said again: “Man, I really stirred the pot here, didn’t I?”
Stokes’ initial comment was innocent enough, but leave it to fans to read too much into something. His original comment wasn’t substantial evidence to prove any kind of romance between him and Cline. Likely, he’s just a friend supporting his co-star’s creative endeavor.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has everyone sheltering in place, including the cast of Outer Banks. Stokes is currently living in Cline’s apartment, along with fellow castmate Drew Starkey, who plays Sarah’s older brother, Rafe, in the series. Cline and Stokes spoke with E-News, explaining their choice to be quarantined with each other and saying it was better than being alone. Their co-habitation situation had many fans speculating that the two could become a couple by the time the stay-at-home orders are lifted, but that has yet to be proven.

Despite the rumors circulating about Cline and Stokes dating, she is currently single, according to PopBuzz. The chemistry she shares with her co-star is there, but off-screen, the two are just good friends. While they would make a cute couple, until either actor confirms a romantic relationship, the two are merely supportive co-stars who have enjoyed sharing in each other’s success.
Fortunately, fans will likely their fair share of the two romancing each other in another season of Outer Banks. While a second season has yet to be confirmed by Netflix, showrunner Jonas Pate has already started writing another season of Outer Banks. Pate and his collaborators Josh Pate and Shannon Burke imagined the show to be a “four season-novel,” which could mean plenty of John B and Sarah Cameron in the future.
