‘Outer Banks’ Season 3: J.J. And Kiara Romance Has Potential in New Episodes
Since the first season of Outer Banks, Kiara (Madison Bailey) has kissed almost every Pogue except for J.J. (Rudy Pankow). Ahead of season 3, Outer Banks showrunners and Bailey alike have been teasing the idea of Kiara hooking up with the final Pogue in new episodes. Here’s what we know about the potential of a romance between Kiara and J.J. in Outer Banks Season 3.
‘Outer Banks’ fans want Kiara and J.J. together
In Outer Banks Season 1, Kiara kissed John B. (Chase Stokes) and Pope (Jonathan Daviss). By season 2, she and Pope explored the idea of a relationship, leaving many fans feeling bad for J.J.
“I think people want what they don’t have,” Bailey told Entertainment Weekly ahead of season 2. “If it was me and J.J. [kissing], then people would be like, ‘Well, what about Pope?’ J.J. is the only other Pogue that Kiara doesn’t have any romantic interaction with, so I think that’s why [fans] want it.”
Later, in July 2021, Bailey spoke to Us Weekly about Kiara and J.J. potentially hooking up in the Netflix series. Bailey couldn’t speak definitively as to whether the characters will get together in the new season, but she thinks “if there are scenes that really bring them together, then why not?”
Kiara and J.J. will likely get together in ‘Outer Banks’ Season 3
Now, it looks like fans will get what they want in the upcoming season of Outer Banks. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Outer Banks showrunner Josh Pate and Shannon Burke teased the romances to come in season 3 of the Netflix series.
“Teen romance and teen soap are a big part of the show,” said Pate. “We wanted to explore the Ki-Pope relationship but obviously, we’re aware of how the fans feel about J.J. and Ki. We wanted to tease that for the third season.”
In Outer Banks Season 2, Kiara and Pope’s romance clearly bothers J.J., but that was showrunners’ way of teasing a future romance between J.J. and Kiara for fans. Pate says they didn’t want to introduce a romance between Ki and J.J. initially but always knew they would get there because the duo “took us by surprise … like the audience’s reaction to J.J. and Kiara and rooting for that romance.”
Burke added: “We didn’t want to just dismiss Pope and Kiara either; we had built up the whole thing and we wanted to let that play out.”
‘Outer Banks’ Season 3 filming update
Filming for Outer Banks Season 3 is underway, but there’s speculation it could last until sometime in August 2022. After filming in Barbados earlier this year, fans recently spotted the cast in Charleston, South Carolina.
“Spotted Chase, Johnathan Daviss, and Charles Halford at a local dive bar Saturday night!!” said a fan on Reddit. “They were all super nice and down to earth. Bonus points the bartenders said they took very good care of them. It’s refreshing to see big talent just hanging out …”
