‘Outer Banks’: 5 Major Questions Fans Need Answered in Season 3
You really can’t kill a Pogue. After five months of anticipation from Outer Banks fans and the cast, Netflix has finally announced season 3. Season 2 left viewers with plenty of loose ends, which means the writers have a lot of explaining to do in the new episodes. Here are some of the major questions fans need answered in Outer Banks Season 3.
[Spoiler alert: The following story contains spoilers for Outer Banks Season 2.]
How will the Pogues get off the island?
At the end of the season, John B. (Chase Stokes), Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline), JJ Maybank (Rudy Pankow), Pope Heyward (Jonathan Daviss), Kiara Carrera (Madison Bailey), and new Pogue Cleo (Carlacia Grant) escaped Ward Cameron’s (Charles Esten) ship and ended up on a deserted island. The Pogues dubbed the island “Poguelandia” and spent a few hours surfing, sitting by the fire, and enjoying each other’s company.
Having a beach all to themselves probably sounded terrific at first, but that kind of fun can’t last forever. The group risks being exposed to the elements for too long or not finding food or water. Plus, too much time together under harsh conditions will almost certainly lead to arguments.
The Pogues will need to find a way back to the Outer Banks in North Carolina, but how? None of them have a way of contacting anyone. Who will come to their rescue?
How do Big John Routledge and Carla Limbrey know each other?
Outer Banks Season 2’s final scene dropped a major bombshell of a cliffhanger: John B.’s father, Big John Routledge (Charles Halford), seems to be alive. Carla Limbrey (Elizabeth Mitchell) — whom many fans also thought was dead — visited Big John at his hideout in Barbados, raising many questions.
First off, how did Big John survive? The last time fans saw him, he allegedly died on an island. Granted, he didn’t appear to be in the best shape when Limbrey visited him, but he was still alive. It’s worth noting fans have theorized that Big John’s scene with Limbrey was a flashback — in that case, he might actually be dead. Only time will tell.
The second big question from that scene is how Big John and Limbrey know each other. Big John spent months searching for the Royal Merchant treasure, and it’s possible he found Limbrey searching for the gold, too. After all, Limbrey said that Ward crossed her just like he did Big John, which means all three could have been in cahoots. As Hollywood Life notes, another theory suggests that Limbrey could be a relative of John B.’s.
Is Kiara going to boarding school?
OK, this one might be a small question compared to others, but it’s still essential. In season 2, Kiara’s parents threatened to send her to a boarding school in response to her reckless behavior. It’s hard to see how she could talk her way out of that one. Will she really leave? And if she does, how will that affect the Pogues? Even though she spiraled a bit in season 2, Kiara is usually the voice of reason for the group.
Will Kiara and JJ get together?
Many fans have pushed for Kiara and JJ to date since season 1. Kiara has made it very clear that she cares deeply for JJ, and the two have serious chemistry. Kiara dated Pope in season 2, but it didn’t really work out. And for what it’s worth, Bailey and Pankow would love to see their characters get together, too.
“I’m on the edge of my seat with where the writers are going to take this. I’m honestly so passionate about Outer Banks,” Bailey recently told Us Weekly. “I feel like they can’t go wrong with the storyline anywhere, and if me and Rudy teamed up as actors, I think [it] will be really sick.”
Will the Pogues finally get a win?
The final Outer Banks Season 3 question pretty much sums up the Pogues’ adventure thus far. Will they finally beat the Kooks? In season 1, Ward and Rafe Cameron (Drew Starkey) got away with stealing the Royal Merchant gold and framing John B. for murder. Things were looking up in season 2 when the Pogues found the Cross of Santo Domingo, but then Ward stole that, too.
There’s no way the Kooks could ruin things a third time, right? Unfortunately, Ward is still alive, and he’s probably not giving up on the fight. The Pogues will likely devise a plan to take back the cross and maybe also the gold. However, Ward might try to stop them again. At this point, many fans just need to see the Pogues win.
