‘Outlander’: 4 Things Caitriona Balfe Can’t Live Without
Caitriona Balfe is known for playing Claire Fraser in the wildly popular series “Outlander.” During a recent interview, she listed items she absolutely can’t live without. Here are the must-haves on Balfe’s list.
Caitriona Balfe loves music
Caitriona Balfe told “O, The Oprah Magazine” she has to have her music. “When I’m having a really bad day, there’s nothing like getting in the car, taking a drive, and blaring music,” said Balfe in the February issue. “It’s dependent on mood, but I do like my punk rock if I need to vent. Other days, it’s Nina Simone or one of my favorites, Kate Bush.”
A leather biker jacket is a staple in Caitriona Balfe’s closet
One staple in Balfe’s closet is a leather biker jacket. She tells the magazine she decided to splurge on a leather jacket when she first started working on “Outlander.” Balfe says it’s sometimes difficult for her to spend money on herself because her mother frowns upon expensive purchases:
During ‘Outlander’s’ first season, I brought an obscenely expensive leather jacket. But I’ve worn it so much that if you break down the cost per wear, it’s the most economically sensible thing I’ve ever done. I don’t tend to splurge because I have an Irish mother who sits on my shoulder when I shop and says things like, ‘You don’t need that.’ But for that purchase, I managed to shut her up.
A passport is high on her list of must-haves
Balfe tells “O” magazine she doesn’t go anywhere without her passport. She likes to be able to pick up and travel at a moment’s notice:
I never leave home without it. I think because I moved from Ireland when I was 18 and have since lived abroad, there’s a weird part of me that often thinks, ‘What if there’s an emergency?’ So I always need to be able to leave at a moment’s notice. And I’ve never left it behind—though now I’ve said that, I probably will.
The ‘Outlander’ actress is fond of potatoes
An unexpected item on Balfe’s list is potatoes. She tells the publication this would be the food she would want most if she were on a desert island. “They’d be my desert-island food pick, even though I’d eaten them nearly every day of my life,” Balfe said. “They’re just so versatile! You can fry them, boil them, roast them, turn them into crisps—or chips, as you guys call them. I don’t think I’d ever get bored.”
What’s next for Caitriona Balfe
The actress is gearing up for “Outlander” season 5, which continues with Jamie and Claire (Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe) setting up their home at Fraser’s Ridge. The couple is in the process of building their life in America after reuniting with their daughter, Brianna (Sophie Skelton). The show returns to STARZ on February 16 and will begin with an episode titled “The Fiery Cross.”
