‘Outlander’ Cast Then and Now: See How Jamie and Claire Have Changed Since Season 1
Outlander just marked a major milestone. On August 9, the steamy period drama celebrated the 10th anniversary of its series premiere.
The Starz show follows the epic romance between Claire (Caitriona Balfe), a time-traveling doctor from the mid-20th century, and Jamie (Sam Heughan) a dashing Highlander from the 18th century. Over the past decades, fans have followed Jamie, Claire, and their family and friends as they crisscrossed the globe and hopped through time, from Scotland to France to the American Colonies and beyond. Over time, plenty has changed for the couple. But their love hasn’t diminished. Instead, it’s grown stronger.
‘Outlander’ star Sam Heughan says Jamie and Claire’s relationship has grown ‘deeper’ since season 1
“The passion hasn’t changed. It’s deeper and it’s developed,” Heughan told TV Insider earlier this year. “It’s not that Fraser fire that we had in season 1 because they’ve got older, they’re grandparents now. But Jamie says multiple times that he couldn’t live without her. And we’ve seen that. He’s the most codependent person we’ve ever met. They love each other, and their love has grown to such an extent that it’s grown a family and spans across continents.”
In Outlander Season 7B, which is set to premiere on Nov. 22, Jamie and Claire are back in Scotland for the first time in years. And while they have a few more gray hairs, their feelings for each other are as strong as ever, as seen in this shot of the pair enjoying a quiet drink together.
Brianna and Roger face new challenges in the second half of ‘Outlander’ Season 7
Things have also changed in a major way for Jamie and Claire’s daughter, Brianna (Sophie Skelton), who was first seen on the show at the end of season 2. In season 7A, she and her husband Roger (Richard Rankin) returned to the 20th century so that their daughter could get medical treatment. But their family was ripped apart when their son Jemmy was kidnapped by Brianna’s coworker Rob Cameron (Chris Fulton).
When we first met Roger in season 2, he’s an academic who falls hard for Bree when she visits Scotland with her mother. After Bree travels through the stones to warn Claire of her impending death at Fraser’s Ridge, Roger follows her. They eventually marry and start a family in 18th century America before returning to 1980s Scotland. But at the end of season 7A, Roger leaves Bree and goes back through the stones in an attempt to find his son. In a photo from one of Outlander’s upcoming episodes, we see him back in the 1700s.
Jamie reunites with his family in ‘Outlander’ Season 7B
Jamie’s return to Scotland in the second half of Outlander’s seventh season brings with it a reunion with some of his beloved family members. That includes his brother-in-law Ian Murray (Steven Cree). In this photo, Ian is looking a little grayer than in the past, but there’s no doubt his bond with Jamie is still strong.
Jamie will also reconnect with his older sister Jenny, but Starz hasn’t released any photos of the older version of that character. However, fans can expect her to look a little different. Laura Donnelly originally portrayed Jenny, but Kristin Atherton is taking over in season 7.
Ian and Jenny will also finally get the chance to see their son, young Ian (John Bell) again. But will they recognize him? In season 4, Ian was taken prisoner by the Mohawk. He eventually married a Mohawk woman and adopted many of their customs and learned the language.
The upcoming Outlander episodes will also feature the return of Lord John Grey (David Berry). The adult version of the character was introduced in season 3, when he was the governor of Ardsmuir prison, where Jamie was behind bars. The two eventually became friends and have crossed paths several times since. In a photo from season 7B, Lord John is seen talking to Claire.
Outlander Season 7B premieres Friday, Nov. 22 on Starz.
