‘Outlander’ Star Sam Heughan Doesn’t Sound Anything Like Jamie Fraser in His New Series ‘Suspect’
Outlander star Sam Heughan is currently filming season 7 with the rest of the cast and crew. At the same time, he’s starring in a new limited series on Channel 4 in the UK. Heughan is one of the stars of the mystery/thriller Suspect. And in the new trailer, the Scot doesn’t sound anything like Jamie Fraser.
Sam Heughan filmed his new series while on break from ‘Outlander’
Heughan’s work schedule for Outlander Season 6 was cut short in 2021 due to his co-star Caitriona Balfe’s (Claire Fraser) pregnancy. They only shot eight episodes instead of the planned 12, and wrapped filming in June.
That schedule change apparently gave Heughan the opportunity to work on other projects. Including Suspect, which began filming in October. The 42-year-old briefly appeared in the series trailer just released by Channel 4, and the few words that came out of his mouth came as quite the shock to fans.
Instead of speaking like Highlander Jamie Fraser — with a thick Scottish accent — Heughan sounded completely different.
Sam Heughan ditches his Scottish accent
The new Suspect trailer doesn’t give fans any information about Heughan’s character, except for indicating that he is from England. That’s because in the brief scene, the actor can be heard with a British accent instead of a Scottish one.
“Don’t go sticking your nose into things that are best left well alone,” Heughan says in the clip.
When the actor posted the trailer on Twitter, fans shared their excitement and anticipation to see Heughan in such a different role.
“My kind of series love it and can’t wait to see it!” one fan wrote. Another added: “SO looking forward to this! And so thankful that at some point it’s coming to the US!” A third person shared: “Looking forward to seeing what you have been up to!”
What is the ‘Outlander’ star’s new series about?
According to the synopsis for the eight-part crime drama, Suspect is about a veteran detective named Danny Frater — played by James Nesbitt. When he “turns up at a hospital mortuary for what he thinks is a routine ID check on a young woman’s body, he gets a devastating shock. The corpse turns out to be his estranged daughter, Christina (Imogen King).”
The post-mortem report indicates that she has taken her own life, which traumatizes Danny. He doesn’t accept this explanation for her death, so he sets out on a mission for the truth. The detective proceeds to retrace her final days in an attempt to find out what really happened to his only child.
“He is forced to confront his own failings as a father whilst struggling to make sense of a mass of contradictory testimony and circumstantial evidence, and he must decide who, if anyone, is responsible for Christina’s death and what he’s going to do about it,” the synopsis reads, per Hello! Magazine.
Channel 4 has not yet announced a premiere date for Suspect, but Heughan has told fans on social media that it’s “coming soon.”
A premiere date for season 7 of Outlander has not been announced.
