Maya Miller (Jessica Frances Dukes) did what she thought was right and had the FBI arrest Omar Navarro in Ozark Season 4 Part 1. But it sounds like the move will blow back on her. Showrunner Chris Mundy teased that she’ll face “repercussions” in Ozark Season 4 Part 2 for going against her word and superiors.

What happened to Maya Miller in ‘Ozark’

By the start of Ozark Season 4, most of Marty and Wendy Byrde’s goals were within their grasp. But just when it seemed that things were going according to plan, Navarro blindsided them with a request to help him transition to a legitimate life. It was a seemingly impossible feat that the two managed to pull off, only to find out that Maya went back on the deal at the last minute and arrested Navarro.

Navarro’s arrest is a major problem for the Byrdes but also for Maya. This could go in many directions and should make for some interesting storylines when the series returns.

Mundy on Maya betraying Navarro and going against her superiors

Mundy spoke to TVLine about Maya’s decision to arrest Navarro and the impact it could have in the remaining episodes. He noted that Maya basically ruined her career “to remain true [to herself].”

“[Maya] has totally screwed over her bosses,” he said. “She basically committed career suicide to remain true [to herself]; she just could not break her moral code [and] compromise. But they can’t come out [against her] publicly because, what, she wasn’t supposed to arrest the biggest drug kingpin in the world? So she’s sort of persona non grata [at work], but publicly kind of a hero.”

Mundy noted that the next half of Ozark Season 4 would partly focus on the fallout and the “repercussions” Maya would face at work.

“We don’t go heavily into it, but yes, absolutely,” he said when asked whether Maya would face any blowback. “It’s not the last you see of Maya.”

Dukes on the rest of ‘Ozark’ Season 4

Dukes opened up about the remainder of the season in separate interviews. She said she “had all the emotions” while watching it and teased that fans would probably experience the same.

“I think the fans are going to have every single emotion there is,” she told Looper. “… They’re going to be excited. I think they’re going to be heartbroken. I think they’re going to look at their lives a little bit better. You’re going to go on a major emotional rollercoaster throughout the entire season.”

She continued: “Every script that came in — because we don’t get them all at once, we get them bit by bit — and every script that came in, I was like, ‘But how?’ I would call the showrunner and be like, ‘Can I get just one more script?’ Because I really wanted to … I would read it like a novel, I wanted to know. It’s definitely going to be binge-able. You’re not going to be able to stop.”

As a final word, she told fans: “Get ready. Fasten your seat belts. Have your snacks. Have your food already prepped. You’re not going anywhere. You’re going to sit here and watch and it’s going to be amazing. I’m excited.”
