‘Ozark’: Fans Are Convinced Marty Byrde Will Die in Season 4 After This Comment From Netflix
Things aren’t looking so good for Marty Byrde right now. While his drug empire is booming, the crooked accountant at the center of Netflix’s Ozark is just one slip up away from losing it all, with Navarro already down his throat and law enforcement on his tail.
Of course, Marty has shown great skill and finesse at weaseling out of sticky situations. But after seeing a message from Netflix, some fans are convinced that he won’t make it out alive.
Where ‘Ozark’ Season 3 left off
As you’ll remember, the season three finale of Ozark ended with the shooting death of Helen Pierce. Helen had tried to cut the Byrdes out of the picture so that she could assume control of the riverboat casino. But Navarro chose them over her, likely because of how much they had helped him — from getting the FBI to take down his rival to setting up Ben’s murder.
But those actions also came at a cost. Fed up with the Byrdes’s two-timing ways, Ruth Langmore left them seemingly for good in the finale to work with rival drug dealer Darlene Snell. This all sets the stage for some major drama in upcoming episodes of Ozark, which is set to end after season four.
Netflix made a comment about ‘Ozark’ Season 4 that left some fans convinced that Marty Byrde will die
Speculation about Marty’s possible death began in 2020 when Netflix tweeted a message announcing the fourth season of Ozark.
“They’re going to go out with a bang,” the tweet said. “Ozark will be back with an expanded 14-episode final season.”
Some readers took the first sentence literally and began to share theories that Marty’s story will end in death.
“I bet either Wendy or Marty will die in the final season of Ozark,” one person reportedly tweeted in part, according to The Daily Express. Another allegedly agreed on Reddit, saying, “Marty, Wendy, and Charlotte all die for various reasons.”
Judging from their lifestyle and everything that’s happened so far, it’s not hard for us to imagine someone being killed off the show. But just to be clear, there’s no word on what’s going to happen to any of the characters in season four.
What we do know about ‘Ozark’ Season 4
When asked about what viewers could expect in season four, Ozark showrunner Chris Mundy told Entertainment Weekly:
“I think it will be about whether or not Ruth really can create something of her own that she wants and is sustainable, or if she wants something else. And I think it will be about if the Byrdes can turn the biggest mistake of their lives into this huge advantage, and how much will karma catch up with them if they do?”
Jason Bateman (Marty Byrde) admitted in a separate interview with IndieWire that he’s already aware of the way his character’s story ends. “I know, and it’s great,” he said.
But of course, you’ll have to wait until the show comes out to see. Until then, read more of our coverage on Ozark Season 4, including a possible release date, here.
