Julia Garner plays Ruth Langmore, Marty Byrde’s (Jason Bateman) reluctant partner in Ozark. The Netflix series returns on Jan. 21, but we’re here to remind you of the movies and TV shows Garner’s in outside of the money-laundering drama. If you’re an Ozark fan who thinks Garner looks familiar, you’ve probably seen these films and TV shows.

‘Ozark’s Julia Garner starred alongside Sarah Paulson and Elizabeth Olsen

Ruth Langmore is one Garner’s most widely recognized roles. But before she became Ruth Langmore, Garner starred alongside Marve’s Elizabeth Olsen and American Horror Story‘s Sarah Paulson in Martha Marcy May Marlene.

In the 2011 movie, Olsen’s character, Martha, tries to escape a cult and assimilate to normal life. Garner played a member of a cult, Sarah. Other notable actors in the film include Christopher Abbott, John Hawkes, and Maria Dizzia.

Julia Garner’s TV roles outside of ‘Ozark’ include ‘Girls’ and ‘Waco’

In 2016, Garner made a brief appearance in Lena Dunham’s HBO series Girls. She plays Charlie’s (Abbott) roommate in the episode “The Panic in Central Park.”

More recently, Garner starred in the TV mini-series Waco. She played Michele Jone, Rachel Koresh’s sister, David Thibodeau’s wife, and a member of David Koresh’s camp.

Garner’s TV roles don’t stop there. In the past, she played Kimberly Breland in The Americans, Ellie Landsberg in Maniac, and Terra Newell in Dirty John. Other TV series featuring appearances from Garner include Modern Love and Robot Chicken. What’s more, Garner will also star in the upcoming Netflix series Inventing Anna.

Julia Garner’s ‘Inventing Anna’ role challenged her with the ‘hardest accent’

Netflix’s Inventing Anna comes out on Feb. 11, 2022. The Shonda Rhimes limited series details the life and crimes of Russian-born German convicted fraudster Anna Delvey/Sorokin. Like Ruth Langmore, this role required Garner’s penchant for distinguishable accents.

“I … made sure that the script supervisor had an eye on my accent during that period of time,” Garner told Town and Country. “Playing those two parts at the same time was probably the hardest thing I’ve had to do in my life. Those are not easy women.” Garner went so far as to say Delvey’s accent was “the hardest [she’ll] ever do.”
