‘Ozark’ Season 4: Production Crew Spotted Still Filming in Georgia
Fans can’t wait to see what becomes of the Byrde family in Ozark Season 4. The Netflix series features Jason Bateman as the money-laundering Marty Byrde, and his wife, Wendy Byrde (played by Laura Linney), assists with the family’s crimes. While fans know another season is on its way, it seems an eagle-eyed fan saw production crews filming in Georgia. Here’s what they reported.
Where do they film ‘Ozark’? The production crew typically isn’t in the Ozark Mountains at all
The bleak Netflix series takes place in the Ozark Mountains from Missouri to the Arkansas River. But that’s not actually where the crew films. Going into Ozark Season 4, it’s likely the production crew will use the locations fans will recognize from the previous three seasons.
Town & Country Magazine reports most of the show gets filmed near Atlanta, Georgia. Lake Allatoona remains a popular spot for the production crew of the show, and the location is just an hour away from Atlanta. The production crew also films at Lake Lanier — another Georgian lake. The Byrde’s family home rests on a peninsula in Lake Lanier. As for why the crew chose these locations, Bateman noted the region offered “some really great color and grit to the aesthetic that’s perfect for the rural flavor that we want.”
So, what about the infamous Blue Cat Lodge? Fans have seen the Blue Cat since season 1, and according to Condé Nast Traveller, the location was formerly known as the Little River Grill. Now, the functional restaurant took on the name J.D.’s on the Lake.
Fan spotted the season 4 production crew filming in Atlanta, Georgia
It looks like Ozark Season 4 is back in action, as promised. A Reddit user posted a photo of Bateman in a typical Marty Byrde outfit talking to a blonde woman (likely Linney). The photo was posted at the end of June 2021. The user who posted the photo took the photo in Atlanta, the crew’s typical filming region.
“Filming Ozark in Atlanta outside by STK where I’m eating dinner,” the Reddit user wrote.
Fans then continued to talk about the filming location for the series. Many commented on the tax breaks the crew allegedly gets for filming near Atlanta.
“Georgia’s a big filming place now because no unions,” a Reddit user noted. “Pretty much the entire show is filmed within a few hours of Atlanta.”
Another fan wrote about how they make the show look convincingly like the Ozarks region. “They send out a crew to the Ozarks once a season to film aerial shots of the lakes, and everything with actors is filmed in Georgia,” the fan explained. “It’s how they trick us into thinking it’s all in Missouri.”
Will ‘Ozark’ Season 4 be the last?
So, will Ozark Season 4 really wrap up the series? It seems it will. But the final season will present differently than the prior three. The first three seasons of the show had 10 episodes per season, and season 4 will have a total of 14 episodes with a division in the middle.
“It’s going to be in two halves,” showrunner Chris Mundy explained. “It’s going to be 14 episodes, so the first half is going to air seven. We’re hoping that’s sooner rather than later. It’ll be easier for us to get these first seven done.”
Wyatt Langmore actor Charlie Tahan talked about what’s to come for the new season, too. And it seems he doesn’t even know what to expect going forward. “With an ongoing show, you don’t have all the scripts, it goes on for years,” he said. “So, you know, you have no idea how the show’s going to turn out …. But, I mean, I have a lot of trust with the writers at Ozark.”
We look forward to what’s to come for the Byrdes as the series ends.
