Ozzy Osbourne Revealed What Beatles Song He Wants Played at His Funeral
Ozzy Osbourne revealed what he thought of The Beatles in relation to other 1960s bands. He said he wanted one of The Beatles’ famous songs played at his funeral. On the other hand, he said his father had a different attitude toward the Fab Four.
Ozzy Osbourne revealed how his father reacted to a Fab Four song
During a 2019 interview with GQ, Osbourne revealed he has a high opinion of The Beatles even though his father did not. “I remember playing The Beatles to my dad and he goes, ‘What are you playing that s*** for?’ And I go, ‘It’s The Beatles!’ and he goes, ‘Oh, they’ll never become anything!'” Osbourne was in disbelief. “Can you believe he said that about the f****** Beatles?” he said. “It was such an amazing time for music in the ’60s. When popular music hit me, it was like magic was in the air.”
Osbourne felt the Fab Four was part of a larger trend of great 1960s bands. “Groups like The Beatles, The Stones, The Dave Clark Five, Brian Poole and the Tremeloes, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Manfred Mann,” he said. “It was just f amazing.”
Ozzy Osbourne wants The Beatles’ In My Life’ played at his funeral but not his own songs
During a 2016 interview with NME, Osbourne said he wanted The Beatles’ “In My Life” played at his funeral. “I really need a few more years to think this over, but probably something from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band or Revolver,” he said. Notably, “In My Life” appeared on The Beatles’ Rubber Soul, not Sgt. Pepper or Revolver.
Osbourne further revealed what music he doesn’t want to be played at his funeral. “I definitely don’t want my f****** greatest hits album — I never ever play that thing, I’m f****** embarrassed about it,” he said. “And I definitely don’t want a f****** happy song — I’m dead.”
How The Beatles’ ‘In My Life’ performed on the charts in the United States and the United Kingdom
While “In My Life” is a very famous song, The Beatles never released it as a single. Thus, it didn’t chart on the Billboard Hot 100. The song’s parent album, Rubber Soul, became a massive hit. For six weeks, it topped the Billboard 200. Rubber Soul spent 70 weeks on the chart in total.
On the other hand, “In My Life” became a minor chart hit in the United Kingdom. According to The Official Charts Company, the song reached No. 78 in the U.K. in 2010. The song lasted on the chart for one week. Rubber Soul became far more popular in the U.K. There, it topped the chart for eight weeks. It stayed on the chart for 42 weeks.
