P-Valley fans have loved Diamond from the moment he was introduced on the show. Played by Tyler Lepley, he’s an ex-Marine who now works security at The Pynk. Despite his tough exterior, Diamond is a sentimental romantic and in time comes to develop feelings for Keyshawn (Shannon Thornton), a dancer at the club. However, Keyshawn is stuck in a toxic break up-make up cycle with her daughter’s father, Derrick. Viewers can expect to see more of them and so much else in P-Valley Season 2.

Diamond’s backstory could be explored further in ‘P-Valley’ Season 2

By the end of P-Valley Season 1, Keyshawn had grown to have genuine feelings for Diamond. Still, she couldn’t find it in herself to leave Derrick. When Diamond confronted Derrick at Murda Night for abusing her, a violent fight broke out between them. Keyshawn tried intervening but was unable to stop them. Out of desperation, she grabbed a gun and commanded Diamond to get off of Derrick. Diamond and audiences were shocked.

Though there’s a slight time jump in P-Valley Season 2, viewers will see more from Diamond next season. When asked, the purported Twitter page for the P-Valley writers room said that Diamond’s backstory, specifically, is “likely” to come up on the show.

“We won’t know till we’re back in the room, but most likely!” read the tweet. “While his PTSD doesn’t define him, it’s an important part of him. All that death and mayhem in the finale is gonna have a big impact Diamond…”

The account is unverified, but it appears to be followed by Katori Hall, the creator and showrunner of P-Valley. Showbiz Cheat Sheet reached out to Hall for additional comment but did not immediately hear back.

Actor Brandee Evans said the next season will be a ‘rollercoaster’ ride

In a previous interview with Gold Derby, actor Brandee Evans (Mercedes) spoke further about what’s ahead in season 2. Though she didn’t get into specifics, she teased it would be a “rollercoaster” ride for all characters.

“I can’t say too, too much, but just know that she is going on an insane journey this season,” she told W Magazine when it came to Mercedes, who has found herself in a coverup with Autumn and Uncle Clifford over Montavius’ death.

“Whew! Get your mind right for what you’re about to see,” Evans continued. “There will be a lot more vulnerability. [Showrunner] Katori Hall doesn’t shy away from difficult situations. You’re going to see a lot more of what’s happening outside of the club.”

She added: “I can’t relate to a dancer who does exotic dance in the club, but I can relate to someone who’s a preacher’s child, because I am one too, or someone who wants to be a mother to a child—all these things that make us as women and men go, I know how that feels. So there’s a lot of that happening, bringing it to the forefront, touching your hearts and souls this season.”

When will ‘P-Valley’ return?

Though an exact release for P-Valley Season 2 has yet to be announced, it has been confirmed that the show will return in June. It took time due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, but Evans promised it’ll be worth the wait.

“I can tell you that it’s going to be well worth the wait, and a lot of your questions will be answered,” she told BlackFilmandTV.com. “And so it’s a bigger rollercoaster ride to me. To me, it’s more emotional, it’s even more real, and I didn’t even think that was possible. But just very much more relatable and real.”
