‘P-Valley’: New Season 2 Details Emerge
Starz’s P-Valley has been one of the best things to come out of 2020. The series, which follows the lives of a group of dancers working at the Chucalissa, Mississippi nightclub The Pynk, debuted earlier in the year to positive reviews and praise for its depiction of strip club culture in the South.
It went off the air amidst the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that has shuttered production on several TV and movie projects. But in the months since then, some season two details have emerged. Find everything we know, here.
How ‘P-Valley’ Season 1 ended
After dodging her ex Montavius the entire season, Autumn finally came face-to-face with him in the season one finale. Under the guise of a customer, he got Autumn to join him in the Paradise Room, where he forcibly demanded she turn over his $250,000.
Mercedes, sensing Autumn was in trouble, interrupted, leading to a fight that eventually ended in Montavius’s apparent death.
Afterward, Autumn used the $250,000 at an auction to save The Pynk, beating out Andre and officially making her and Uncle Clifford partners. In one of the final moments of the finale, she and other staffers are shown back at the club, preparing to open for business.
Where ‘P-Valley’ Season 2 will pick up
Creator and showrunner Katori Hall told Entertainment Weekly in September that the focus of season two will partly be about the power dynamics at the club now that Autumn is part owner.
“She came in getting her a** smacked on the dance floor and now, she has some ownership in the club,” Hall explained. “The power dynamics at the club have completely changed and to see Uncle Clifford and Hailey fight over the throne will be stuff of legends.”
But at the same time, Hall mentioned Autumn and Uncle Clifford are “forever” bonded by what happened to Montavius, whose disappearance could spark a search by his gang Delta Devoted.
“I can only say that the secret of what went down in the Paradise Room will bond Uncle Clifford, Mercedes, and Hailey forever,” Hall continued. “It remains to be seen if the Delta Devoted will come looking for Montavius in season 2.”
‘P-Valley’ Season 2 will also address the coronavirus pandemic
More recently, Hall also told Variety in a report published in December that the second season will address the coronavirus crisis “head-on,” particularly in regards to its effects on Black women and Black communities.
“This pandemic has stopped many businesses from gathering. You can’t have music concerts, yet strip clubs down South are on and popping,” she said. “I really feel as though we need to honor the moment and tell this story. And we have to have a document as to how we survived — particularly how Black folks are surviving this moment, because no one’s telling that story.”
She didn’t go into specifics and what that will look like in terms of the storyline. But a report from TV Guide suggests some of the dancers might turn to other means of making money in order to survive.
When will ‘P-Valley’ Season 2 air?
P-Valley was renewed for a second season back in July, according to The Hollywood Reporter. But there’s no official release date just yet.
“Unfortunately, with COVID-19 still making it hard to shoot, it will take awhile to gear up for production. We will keep y’all posted tho. Until then#MaskUpYall,” Hall tweeted in September.
It sucks to hear, but on a brighter note, TV Guide reports that the next season will at least have more episodes, moving to 10 instead of eight. So when it does return, there should be some really exciting things in store. Stay tuned.
