The new ‘Fatal Attraction’ series is a ‘reimagining’ of the film starring Glenn Close

If you’ve ever heard the term “bunny boiler,” you know it’s a reference to the famous 1987 film Fatal Attraction starring Glenn Close and Michael Douglas. Close stars as Alex, a woman who becomes increasingly unhinged after having a quick affair with the married Dan, played by Douglas. Eventually, Alex threatens Dan and his family after he rebuffs her constant advances. The movie, produced by Paramount Pictures, was a box office success and raked in over $320 million. Now, streaming service Paramount+ is turning it into a series.

According to Variety, “The series is described as a deep-dive reimagining of the film that will explore the timeless themes of marriage and infidelity through the lens of modern attitudes towards strong women, personality disorders, and coercive control. Caplan will star as Alex, who becomes obsessed with her lover Dan (Jackson) after a brief affair.”

Alexandra Cunningham has taken on the role of showrunner and writer for the Fatal Attraction series, while Kevin J. Hynes will share a co-story credit and serve as the executive producer. The original film scored several Oscar and Academy Award nominations in categories such as Best Picture and Best Director. Close earned an Academy Award nomination for her role as Alex.

Joshua Jackson has seen success in several recent shows

Anyone into teen drama in the late ’90s or early ’00s recognizes Jackson as the lovable Pacey Witter. Lately, though, Jackson has had a chance to show off his acting chops. He recently starred in the Peacock series Dr. Death as Dr. Christopher Duntsch. Based on the podcast of the same name, the series follows the true crimes of Dr. Duntsch, a neurosurgeon. Duntsch became known for mutilating his patients during surgery, causing two of his patients’ deaths.

The role of Duntsch seems like a much darker role than one Jackson typically takes, but he received positive reviews. The president of Paramount+ Original Scripted Series, Nicole Clemens, also spoke about Jackson’s acting talent and his role in the Fatal Attraction series to Variety.

“Joshua is an incredible talent who creates beautifully complicated characters on both the screen and stage. He and Lizzy are perfectly matched to tell a nuanced and modern narrative about the complexities of the human psyche. We’re thrilled to partner with them to bring this provocative and captivating story to a new generation.”
