‘Paris in Love’ Season 1 Episode 1 Recap: ‘The Unengaged Bride’

Carter Reum and Paris reminisce on their first date
Paris in Love, which hit Peacock on Nov. 11, 2021, begins with Hilton and her husband-to-be, Carter Reum, sitting down on the couch to discuss the early days of their relationship. They talk about their first date, which also took place on that very couch. At one point Reum remembers saying something like, “I want to get to the real Paris, not Paris Hilton.” He even recalls Hilton’s reaction. According to him she got up from the couch, opened the fridge, and proceeded to chug rosé.
Having known each other for about 15 years before their first date, Hilton and Reum only exchanged a few words in passing. But after spending Thanksgiving together in 2019 they noticed their undeniable chemistry.
‘Paris in Love’ recap: Paris says her relationship feels ‘too good to be true’
A major storyline in this Paris in Love episode is the fact that Hilton doesn’t seem interested in getting married. She confesses she’d rather focus on the things she likes that don’t involve the date, venue, or any of the finer details. Instead, Hilton focuses on the multiple wedding gowns she’ll be wearing.
Nicky Hilton Rothschild, Hilton’s younger sister, urges her to start planning over lunch. She advises her to set up a meeting with a wedding planner but Hilton distractedly digs through her handbag. Later, one of Hilton’s dearest friends Jenny asks her why she’s stalling. Hilton confesses that Reum, and the relationship they have, seems almost “too good to be true.”
In the same conversation, they also discuss how Hilton’s fiancé is most certainly the guy for her. “He gives you space,” Jenny says, noting that he also “respects” Hilton. Not only that but there’s a similar dynamic between Hilton and Reum and Hilton’s parents, Kathy and Richard Hilton. Like her father, Reum’s happy to be out of the spotlight while Hilton walks red carpets.
Hilton even confides in her mom about feeling like her fiancé is “too good to be true.” The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star reassures her daughter she deserves to be happy, telling her she had similar feelings about her own relationship.
Paris and Reum celebrate their ‘monthiversary’ with a surprise trip to San Francisco
The Simple Life alum knows what she’s doing on the 29th day of every month, celebrating what she calls her “monthiversary.” Every four weeks like clockwork she and Reum do something special on their anniversary. In this episode of Paris in Love it’s a surprise that’s been planned by Hilton’s husband-to-be.
Hilton’s instructed to pick out a designer dress to wear with a diamond necklace and be ready to board a plane to an unknown destination. Reum meets her on the tarmac and they fly to San Francisco, Calif., for a stay at the Fairmont hotel’s penthouse suite. They have dinner overlooking the city and explore the suite’s connection to Hilton’s Hollywood favorite, Marilyn Monroe.
