Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Matthews Set a Wedding Date and Chiefs Fans Are Trying to Find Out the Details
With future Hall of Fame quarterbacks like Peyton Manning and Drew Brees having retired in the last few years and other veterans like Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger in the twilight of their careers, the NFL is relying on a new crop of quarterbacks to become stars. Leading that pack is Chiefs passer Patrick Mahomes, who has excelled on the field in the early part of his career, which has led him to achieve mainstream fame. As an athlete who has crossed over to become famous in the entertainment world as well, Mahomes’ personal life is often in the spotlight. So when he and his fiancé set a wedding date, people tried to dig into the details.
Patrick Mahomes’ NFL career
According to Pro Football Reference, Mahomes became the Chiefs’ starter in 2018 and quickly showed the football world what he can do, entering elite territory by throwing 50 touchdown passes that season. He was named the league MVP that season, but the highlight of his career so far came at the conclusion of the 2019 campaign, when he led the Chiefs to their first Super Bowl championship in 50 years. He’s coming off another terrific season, in which the Chiefs won 14 of the 15 regular seasons games that he started, and Mahomes looks to be the best quarterback in the league for the foreseeable future.
Mahomes’ relationship with fiancé Brittany Matthews
Mahomes and his fiancé Brittany Matthews are high school sweethearts who are on the verge of becoming husband and wife. They started dating when they were students at Whitehouse High School in Texas; he was in 10th grade and she was an 11th-grader. They dated for eight years, then after the Chiefs’ Super Bowl ring ceremony in September 2020, he proposed to her — a belated birthday present as it was just a day after her birthday. Also in September, they announced that they were expecting their first child, the next major milestone in their relationship. CBS Sports reports Matthews gave birth to their first child, a daughter named Sterling Skye Mahomes, on February 20, just a few weeks after Mahomes played in his second straight Super Bowl, losing to Brady and the Buccaneers.
Mahomes and Matthews set a wedding date
On March 1, Matthews posted photos on her Instagram feed that were a little cryptic in announcing that the celebrity couple set a date for when they plan to have their wedding, as well as a place for where it will be held. The only date referenced is in the hashtag, 2022, which narrows it down to a year but doesn’t give much more information than that. But that hasn’t stopped people in the comments from trying to figure out more based on what they consider clues in the images.
One fan, in particular, seemed to think they discovered where the wedding will take place. That commenter wrote “I don’t know where the wedding is, but their photos were taken in the Kauffman center in KC,” seeming to indicate that Instagram user seems to think the location of the photos indicates the wedding will be in Kansas City. That might make sense based on Mahomes’ profession, but since they are both from Texas and likely still have friends and family there, a wedding closer to the Lone Star State also might make sense.
Also in the comments are people asking if they can attend the wedding and people trying to profit off of it. There is no shortage of vendors in the comments trying to offer their services for the event. Chances are Mahomes and Matthews won’t pick random commenters on Instagram to provide services for their wedding, but they won’t be short for options if they do.
