Patrick Mahomes Gives Worrying Response Over Travis Kelce’s Potential Retirement
The Kansas City Chiefs are in the pop culture spotlight thanks to Travis Kelce. Kelce’s relationship with music sensation Taylor Swift became one of the most discussed celebrity romances in 2024, and the conversation continues into 2025. Chiefs fans worry that Kelce might retire from his NFL gig in favor of the Hollywood lifestyle. Here’s what his teammate and friend, Patrick Mahomes, said about the possibility.
Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes commented on Travis Kelce’s potential retirement
The NFL has more fans than ever before thanks to Travis Kelce’s romance with Taylor Swift. The Kansas City Chiefs star and the pop sensation are going strong in 2025, prompting engagement speculation. Kelce has also started stepping foot into the entertainment world. While he and his brother have their successful podcast, New Heights, he also hosts Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? and has taken roles in Grotesquerie and Happy Gilmore 2.
Chiefs fans have been speculating whether Kelce will go for an early NFL retirement to continue his Hollywood trajectory. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke on Kansas City’s 96.5 FM about Kelce’s future.
“I have no idea,” Mahomes said of Kelce’s retirement. “He hasn’t said anything to me if he’s thinking that.”
Mahomes added that Kelce signed a two-year extension before the current season began, “and he seems like he still loves football.” However, Mahomes noted that Kelce “has a great life” outside the NFL.
“Either way, I just appreciate every single time I step on the field with that guy, knowing he’s a true legend of not only the Chiefs, but the NFL,” Mahomes said. “If it’s his last game, let’s go out there and get him a win. If it’s not his last game, let’s go out and win anyways.”
Travis Kelce said he’s ‘as focused’ on the NFL as ever
Patrick Mahomes might’ve worried Kansas City Chiefs fans over Travis Kelce’s possible future in the NFL. However, Kelce hasn’t given any indication that he’s planning on retiring just yet. Kelce spoke to Stephen A. Smith on the First Take podcast about how Taylor Swift’s undying support helps him.
“I’m enjoying all aspects of life,” Kelce said. “Me and Taylor are happy, and I couldn’t be happier to enjoy that comfort and confidence off the field and all the support I could ever ask for at the stadium, man.”
Kelce noted that his “very strong relationship” allows him to focus on his craft, and he hopes to provide her with the same level of support.
“That’s why I wanted to be at the concert, supporting her and being there for her, making sure she feels comfortable and supportive and everything she’s doing in life,” the tight end continued.
Swift’s support helps him keep his eye on the prize, which is potentially the next Super Bowl.
“I think I’m as focused as I’ve ever been on my job and being the best player that I could possibly be week in, week out for this team,” Kelce continued. “It’s because I don’t have to worry about things off the field.”
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end can’t wait to ‘hang up his boots,’ a source says
Travis Kelce likely has some time left as a tight end with the Kansas City Chiefs. However, a source told RadarOnline that the NFL star “can’t wait” to “hang up his boots” and marry Taylor Swift.
“He can’t wait to be looking after Taylor 24/7,” the source alleged. “He wants to be somewhere between a house husband, a mentor, and a manager. That’s his dream: to get married to Taylor and hang up his boots.”
The insider added that Kelce “knows his body can’t take too much more of the pain he receives in the NFL, and that will be Taylor’s gain.”
