Paul McCartney’s $2.3 Million Wedding Included Renting a Remote Irish Castle
Paul McCartney is one of the most famous musicians in the world. As a founding member of the Beatles, McCartney first rose to fame as one of the most popular members of the world’s ultimate boy band.
After the group disbanded, McCartney continued to work in the music business, writing and releasing many successful singles all on his own.
Given McCartney’s superstar status, it makes sense that there would be a ton of interest in his personal life, and over the years, McCartney has been the subject of thousands of tabloid headlines. In the early 2000s, the English singer became notorious for his extravagant wedding to model Heather Mills — and fans are still talking about the ceremony to this day.
Paul McCartney was married to Linda Eastman for years
When McCartney was in the Beatles, he was known as the cute one. Therefore, fans followed his personal life with great interest and loved learning every detail about his longtime relationship with Jane Asher.
Still, McCartney didn’t marry until 1969, when he tied the knot with photographer Linda Eastman. The two went on to have one of the most successful romances in music history.
They had four children together and formed the popular band Wings. McCartney and Eastman remained happily married until 1989 when Eastman tragically died from breast cancer complications.
Although McCartney was devastated after the loss of his longtime partner, he eventually re-entered the dating scene — although his new love interest would ultimately prove to be the total opposite of Eastman.
Paul McCartney’s extravagant second wedding
In 1999, McCartney met model Heather Mills. At the time, McCartney was still mourning the loss of his wife, but he and Mills enjoyed immediate chemistry, and they began dating.
In 2001, the two got engaged. Their 2002 wedding was one of the most extravagant ceremonies of the decade and took place in a remote castle in Ireland. They welcomed around 300 guests and had Indian food catered in for the luxurious reception. All in all, the wedding reportedly cost McCartney around $2.3 million.
In 2003, McCartney and Mills welcomed a daughter named Beatrice. However, the marriage proved to be a ticking time bomb, and they separated in 2006, amidst reports that Mills didn’t get along with McCartney’s older daughter, designer Stella McCartney.
The divorce made Mills a media pariah, and to this day, McCartney fans still speak disparagingly of the former model.
Is Paul McCartney still married?
Several years after his divorce from Mills, McCartney started dating New York-based businesswoman Nancy Shevell. McCartney had reportedly known Shevell for years prior to beginning a romantic relationship with her.
Shevell is much more low-key than Mills and has kept a low profile since beginning her romance with McCartney.
In late 2011, the two tied the knot in a civil ceremony. McCartney’s third wedding proved to be remarkably different than his marriage to Mills, especially in terms of cost — the civil ceremony featured just thirty witnesses and probably only cost McCartney a few hundred dollars, maximum.
Perhaps the simplicity of the ceremony has brought McCartney and Shevell good luck. The two are still married to this day, and by all accounts, are very happy together.
McCartney continues to play gigs around the world and to work on his music and is showing no signs of slowing down, even at the age of seventy-eight. As for Shevell, she continues to remain mostly behind the scenes, working on her own career and providing support for her famous husband as well.
