Unlike many classic rock stars, Paul McCartney likes to communicate directly to his fans. The “Silly Love Songs” singer was asked if he has any New Year’s resolutions for 2025. He said something that rockers will be overjoyed to hear. In addition, the former Beatle gave us some insight into his family.

Paul McCartney’s 2025 New Year’s resolution is very musical

During a 2024 interview posted to PaulMcCartney.com, the “Maybe I’m Amazed” singer was asked about his plans for the holiday season. “It’s Christmas, so it’s family time for me,” he said. “We’ve got the decorations up already actually. And I’m one of those guys that loves to overdo decorations, so I need a minute to sit back, relax and enjoy them. So, that’s what I’ve got to look forward to … And a very happy Christmas to you!”

The cute Beatle was also asked if he had any New Year’s resolutions for 2025. “Here’s one: finish an album!” he replied. “I’ve been working on a lot of songs and have had to put it to the side because of the tour. So, I’m hoping to get back into that and finish up a lot of these songs. So, how’s about that? ‘My New Year’s resolution is to finish a new album!'”

Paul McCartney joked about being much older than his current wife

For many people, New Year’s is a time to look back on their accomplishments and what makes them happy. Paul revealed what makes him thankful. “My family, as always; my kids and [wife] Nancy [Shevell], who are all great people,” he said. “I love them.

“With them and the grandkids, I’ve got a really enjoyable family to hang out with, particularly at Christmas with all the presents,” he added. “They say, ‘Thanks, Grandad, for the presents. I love them!’ And that’s just Nancy! Haha!” Paul was clearly joking about the 17-year age gap between Nancy and himself. Say what you want about Paul — he clearly has a sense of humor.

How the world might react to this 2025 New Year’s resolution

So, does the world want a new album from Paul? Perhaps the best way to answer that question is to take a look at the recent past. Paul’s latest album of new material was 2020’s McCartney III, a sequel to his earlier records McCartney and McCartney II. McCartney III peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and charted for four weeks. None of the hits from that record made a dent on the Billboard Hot 100.

So, on one hand, McCartney III was a modest hit at best. On the other hand, Paul’s career is doing pretty well, considering he’s been releasing music since 1962. Rockers are lucky to release charting albums ten years after they debuted, much less 60 years after they debuted.

Chances are Paul’s 2025 album will hit the top 10 for a brief period before falling off the Billboard 200. Of course, “FourFiveSeconds,” Paul’s collaboration with Rihanna and Kanye West, became a hit in 2015  — possibly because younger audiences were interested in Rihanna and West. With that in mind, Paul could notch another hit if he works with a younger artist.

Happy New Year to all — especially the fans psyched for a new Paul album!
