‘Peacemaker’ Vigilante Actor Is a ‘Harry Potter’ Star
Peacemaker finally unmasked wannabe superhero Adrian Chase, in Episode 4. And to fans’ surprise, the actor who plays Vigilante is a Harry Potter star.
Who plays Vigilante in ‘Peacemaker’?
Freddie Stroma takes on the role of Vigilante Adrian Chase in Peacemaker. The actor started his career in British television, appearing in series like Mayo and Casualty.
In 2009, Stroma made his wizarding world debut as Cormac McLaggen in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. He reprised the franchise’s final two movies, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2.
Since then, Stroma has been featured in several project projects, including films like Pitch Perfect and Second Act. In the Lifetime drama Unreal, he portrayed bachelor Adam Cromwell. And on Netflix’s hit series, Bridgerton, Stroma portrayed Prince Friedrich opposite another Harry Potter star, Regé-Jean Page.
The ‘Peacemaker’ star loved being part of ‘Harry Potter’
In the Harry Potter movies, Stroma appears as the well-connected, slightly arrogant Gryffindor student and Slug Club member Cormac McLaggen. It was a small supporting role, but Stroma recalled how inviting the cast was, including lead star Daniel Radcliffe.
“I’ve got such fond memories of Harry Potter,” he told Collider. “It was such a warm, welcoming group — I remember going in for a wardrobe fitting, and Daniel Radcliffe walked past, and then he popped his head in and introduced himself to me and had to go back to work.”
Stroma said that he was on set two weeks after briefly meeting Radcliffe. And much to his surprise, Radcliffe came by to say hello.
“I went in for something else, and he popped in to say, “Hi, Freddie,” Stroma recalled. “I was like, ‘How on earth did he remember my name?’ It was just such a warm, welcoming group. It’s great when the lead guy is really such a genuinely nice person. I had a great time on Harry Potter.”
Freddie Stroma knows his version of Adrian Chase differs from the comics
Stroma’s character on Peacemaker Adrian Chase, aka Vigilante, is based on a DC Comics superhero. Vigilante takes on the city’s bad guys in the comic books but never uses lethal force. However, on the HBO Max show, the hero kills all his opponents and seems to enjoy it.
In a recent interview, Stroma talked about his version of Vigilante. And he acknowledged how different it is from the comics.
“Basically, I realized pretty early on that this is a departure from the Adrian Chase that the DC world knows,” Stroma told Comicbook.com. “My brother’s actually given me fifty Vigilante comics. I’m on #12 right now, and I can’t draw any comparisons.”
“This is a completely different character,” he continued. “So, I knew that research into Adrian is more out of respect for the character. As for the actual playing of the role, it’s what was on the page that [writer/director James Gunn] wrote. It’s a completely different character. So that’s kind of the direction I went in with that.”
New episodes of Peacemaker air Thursdays on HBO Max.
