‘Peaky Blinders’ Season 6: Will Grace’s Ghost Return? She’s Missing From the Season 6 Trailer
Peaky Blinders Season 6 premieres soon, and fans can’t wait to see their favorite characters return for the final season. The Peaky Blinders Season 6 trailer gives fans an idea of what’s to come — and it’s clear we’ll see Thomas Shelby and the rest of the Shelbys return. Oddly enough, the trailer doesn’t feature Grace Shelby’s ghost even though she was a prominent figure at the end of Peaky Blinders Season 5. Does this mean Grace won’t return at all?
Grace Shelby died via a gunshot wound meant for Thomas Shelby in ‘Peaky Blinders’ Season 3
Grace Shelby died in Peaky Blinders Season 3, shocking fans. Up until the third season of the show, Grace and Thomas Shelby developed their relationship — and it seemed like Grace would leave the Shelby family behind in search of a better, more wholesome life. She couldn’t stay far from Tommy, though, and they ended up marrying and having a child together. Sadly, she was hit by a bullet meant for Tommy killing her and leaving him in grief.
Tommy mourned Grace’s death through the seasons, and he even sought advice from her ghost. The last moments of season 5 show Tommy putting a gun to his head after connecting with Grace’s ghost, too. This, of course, also happened after his failed attempt to assassinate Oswald Mosley, putting him in a vulnerable mental state.
So, why did Grace Shelby die? According to Express.co.uk, creator Steven Knight told Reddit, “The point with Grace is that if she had lived, Tommy would have been happy. He wasn’t meant to be happy.”
Is Grace in ‘Peaky Blinders’ Season 6? She’s not in the season 6 trailer
While Grace is certainly dead, is she in Peaky Blinders Season 6 at all? The trailer doesn’t show any trace of Grace, leaving fans to believe she doesn’t reappear. But there are a few clues that indicate Thomas Shelby is moving forward without her. The trailer opens to him shooting a machine gun into the air. This event likely takes place right after he nearly shoots himself in the field in the Peaky Blinders Season 5 finale.
Additionally, we can’t forget that season 6 marks the final season, so something major will likely happen to Tommy. His big move might be that he moves forward from Grace’s ghost for good and acts on new plans to benefit his living family. He also might realize that he wants to do more good in the world after all of the heartbreak and chaos he’s caused to those he loves. Some theories suggest he might even sacrifice his own life for Ada Shelby.
Grace Shelby actor Annabelle Wallis talked to Digital Spy about the upcoming season, too. “I have a few very loyal friends in that Peaky Blinders gang that if I said anything, I think I would be in a lot of trouble,” she told them. “There’s a feature. They’re working on a feature, and there’s a lot of surprising things in the world of Peaky Blinders.”
With this in mind, it seems she might end up in the upcoming Peaky Blinders film, but she likely won’t have a part in the new season.
Show creator Steven Knight said Thomas Shelby might encounter a ‘supernatural element’ in season 6
Fans have seen Thomas Shelby connect with Grace Shelby’s spirit before. And we might see more supernatural happenings in Peaky Blinders Season 6.
“I like the supernatural element,” Steven Knight said, according to Metro. “’Is Tommy cursed?’ In other words, is everything predestined, are lives already mapped out? Do you have free will or not? Tommy sometimes feels that he doesn’t because it seems that everything is destined to stop him or move him in a particular direction. It’s the same with the whole family. I explore that more in the next series.”
It’s unclear if this involves Grace or if Knight is just referring to a general Shelby family curse. Fans will have to wait and find out when Peaky Blinders Season 6 airs in early 2022.
