Penn Badgley Addresses the 1 Thing That’s Bothered Fans About His ‘You’ Character
There’s no one creepier than You‘s Joe Goldberg, and Penn Badgley knows that.
The former Gossip Girl star plays the deranged serial killer on Netflix’s hit series and though he does an amazing job embodying the same tendencies as a psychotic stalker, even he gets creeped out by his character from time to time.
Just like fans, many of Joe’s questionable acts haven’t sat well with Badgley. But there’s one shady deed that’s bothered everyone since season 1 and the actor’s finally opening up about it.

If you’re like us and devoured You season 2 in practically one sitting, then you currently have a ton of questions and theories surrounding this new installment.
Aside from trying to figure out if Forty’s actually dead or who the mystery woman is, many of us continue to have questions pertaining to Joe’s chilling deeds.
While we did learn a lot about why Joe acts the way he does in Season 2, there’s one thing about him we still question and quite honestly, are sick of seeing him do.
If you’ve been a fan of You since season 1 then you know that Joe wears a simple baseball cap when he’s out doing some shady activity.
Though this is a constant doing for Joe, viewers have been pointing out that his apparent “disguise” doesn’t exactly make him go unnoticed, which bothers them to no end.
Fans feel as though this cover-up makes Joe stand out even more and frequently roast him on Twitter for being a lackluster spy.
“So every time Joe Goldberg put on this hat he becomes invisible,” one Twitter user wrote.
With countless memes surrounding this topic circulated through the internet, it was only a matter of time before they made their way to Badgley.
When asked if Joe’s baseball cap is “meant to be a full disguise” during a Q&A segment with InStyle magazine, the 33-year-old shared that this so-called cover-up just adds to the uniqueness that is You.
“I don’t know! [Laughs] Trust me, as an actor, I find it very challenging to sometimes suspend my disbelief when you’re forced into a position that is just in the literal sense of the word incredible. That’s the interesting thing about this show — it works.”

With fans having so much to say about Joe’s creepy ways, many have created some pretty incredible memes poking fun at his shady character.
Though there have been countless memes passing through social media, there are a few that have stood out more than others. Some of which even Badgley can’t help but laugh at.
“Yeah, a few people have been texting them to me and I’ve seen some,” he shared. “I think the one that made me laugh out loud was the one where I’ve been given nails and hoop earrings. And there was a tweet with that meme that has been used so many times [“distracted boyfriend”], for so many different purposes to varying effect, and the picture finally had no text on it. The simplicity of that one was very funny to me.”
