It’s starting to feel like a day doesn’t go by without a Kardashian-Jenner being slammed for something. So, who’s found themselves facing internet backlash this time? Caught up in yet another controversy is none other than Kim Kardashian West who’s been accused of being “tone deaf” after documenting her lavish 40th birthday party on a private island amid the coronavirus pandemic in a series of photos.
Kim Kardashian West celebrated her 40th birthday in style
On Oct. 28, Kardashian West shared a series of photos of herself ringing in her 40th birthday with her inner circle on a private island amid the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis.
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star, who turned the big 4-0 on Oct. 21, posted several photos with family and friends — including mom Kris Jenner, siblings Kendall Jenner, Khloé Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Rob Kardashian, and friends La La Anthony, Scott Disick, and Tristan Thompson — as they celebrated her birthday without a mask in sight.
Kardashian West captioned the photos, “40 and feeling so humbled and blessed. There is not a single day that I take for granted, especially during these times when we are all reminded of the things that truly matter.”
Though it appeared that those in attendance weren’t following proper social distancing guidelines, Kardashian West assured fans that she took necessary health precautions before throwing her birthday bash.
“After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time,” she continued. “We danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more. I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is.”
People had a major problem with Kardashian West bragging about her ‘privileged’ life
Despite recognizing her privilege and noting the precautions taken to avoid the spread of COVID-19, Kardashian West’s post still drew significant backlash.
Since she threw her birthday bash in the middle of an international pandemic and posted about it on social media, many felt the KKW Beauty mogul was bragging about her privileged lifestyle and immediately put her on blast for being “tone-deaf,” “ignorant,” and “selfish.”
“Nothing says humble like bragging about a private island trip,” one fan commented on Instagram.
“Very selfish when people are dying and [losing] their jobs…also doubt it very much that all 20+ people that attended isolated prior,” another person wrote.
Some even shared one of Kourtney Kardashian’s infamous catchphrases to best describes how they were feeling toward Kardashian West’s post.
“Kim, there’s people that are dying”? – Kourtney,” an Instagram user penned. “[Your] huge bday party looks fun but Kim there’s people dying,” another commenter chimed in.
Despite the backlash, Kardashian West’s loved ones are still posting photos and videos from the trip
Although fans are still slamming Kardashian West for posting about her birthday bash, that hasn’t stopped her and her party guests from continuing to share additional photos and videos from the trip.
After sharing the birthday photos to her feed, the SKIMS founders posted even more content from her epic celebration on her Instagram Story, including videos of herself posing next to party decor and taking a nighttime dip in the ocean with loves ones.
As for her friends and family, they also posted a series of photos and videos from the trip. Kardashian West’s friend, Tracy Romulus, shared a few snapshots from inside the private jet the group traveled on, which was nothing short of spectacular.
Even Kardashian West’s mom, Kris Jenner, shared a series of photos and videos from the getaway, including shots of the beach, during the day and at sunset, as well as a recording of the celebrations.
At the end of the day, Kardashian West and her loved ones clearly had the time of their lives celebrating her 40th birthday, and if they are aware of the backlash, they’re refusing to acknowledge it on social media.
