‘Physical’ Season 2 Premieres in June, Murray Bartlett Stars as a ‘Charismatic Fierce New Competitor’

Where did ‘Physical’ leave off with Rose Byrne’s character in season 1?
It was easy to think (or at least hope) that everything was going to work out during the season 1 finale of Physical. However, that wasn’t necessarily the case. Yes, Sheila Rubin (Byrne) finished the season with a successful performance at a crowded mall – hinting at what could be the big break she needs as an aspiring aerobics queen. However, everything else seemed to fall apart, including Sheila’s lackluster marriage. The final episode shows Sheila meeting John Breem at the mall. The two make eye contact while John removes his shirt. And, in a shocking climax (literally), the two begin masturbating. This is hardly the career success fans were hoping to see for Sheila during the final episode. However, the scene did show budding sexual freedom for Sheila who has struggled with self-image since the start of the show.
Actor Rose Byrne shared her thoughts about the final scene between Sheila and John during an interview with TVLine.
“You finally see her — for want of a better expression — have some sort of release, and some kind of moment of connection with him,” said Byrne. “He’s really an unreachable guy in so many ways, so this is sort of a way around that, I think… It’s a bit surreal.”

The first episode of Physical Season 2 will premiere on June 3, followed by one new episode weekly, every Friday. According to Apple TV+, season 2 shows Sheila having just successfully launched her first fitness video. However, the newfound success brings even more obstacles for Sheila to overcome. The season also picks up where Sheila’s affair from afar left off in season 1. Sheila is now torn between her husband and her attraction to John. Additionally, Sheila must deal with new competition in the industry as she attempts to build her fitness empire.

Murray Bartlett will also make his much-anticipated debut on the show in season 2. Bartlett rose to fame for his depiction of Armond on White Lotus. Now, he’ll star in Physical as Vincent “Vinnie” Green. Apple TV+ describes Vinnie as a “charismatic fitness instructor, weight-loss guru, and pioneer of the late-night infomercial.” The site also hints that Vinnie is one of the “fierce new competitors” that Sheila must contend with while working to create her legacy in the fitness world. Fans can stream the first episode of Physical Season 2 on Apple TV+ on June 3.
