Piers Morgan Isn’t Sorry for the Meghan Markle Comments He Made That Cost Him His Job
Piers Morgan has been making headlines since he left his job at Good Morning Britain after making disparaging comments about Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and her mental health. After Morgan’s friend, Sharon Osbourne, supported Morgan in his comments, she lost her job at The Talk. Despite all of the fallout that it caused, Morgan does not regret the things that he said.
Piers Morgan’s comments about Meghan Markle
During Meghan’s recent interview with Oprah Winfrey, she spoke about how the constant scrutiny of the press drove her to want to self-harm. She also claimed that she went to certain members of the royal family to request help and didn’t receive any.
“We’re supposed to believe Meghan Markle told Palace aides she was suicidal and desperately needed help, but was informed she couldn’t have any because it might be bad for the Royal brand,” Piers wrote in a newly published essay for The Daily Mail. “And if she was suicidal, then why didn’t Harry get her the urgent help she needed? He’s attached to some of Britain’s biggest mental health charities and has proudly spoken of getting discreet help for himself in the past.”
Meghan also spoke about the racism that she experienced within the royal family and how some members of the family were concerned about how dark her son Archie would turn out to be when she gave birth. Morgan had trouble believing that as well.
“So, because I’m white, I’m not allowed to doubt the validity of Meghan Markle’s two racism claims against the Royal Family, one of which has already been proved to be based on a lie?” he wrote.
Piers Morgan won’t apologize
Piers was initially called out for his comments by Alex Beresford on Good Morning Britain.
“I understand that you don’t like Meghan Markle,” he said. “You’ve made it so clear a number of times on this program. I understand you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or had one and she cut you off… she’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to.
“Has she said anything about you since she cut you off?” Beresford continued. “I don’t think she has, but yet you continue to trash her…” Morgan ultimately walked off of the set after being confronted.
“I’m sorry but Piers spouts off on a regular basis and we all have to sit here and listen,” Beresford added. “From 6:30 to 7 a.m. yesterday, it was incredibly hard to watch. He has the ability to come in here and talk from a position that he doesn’t fully understand…”
After the episode of Good Morning Britain aired, ITV asked Morgan to apologize for his statements. Ultimately, Piers wasn’t sorry, so he refused to apologize.
“Suddenly, I reached a moment of total gut clarity: f*ck it, I wasn’t going to apologize for disbelieving Meghan Markle, because the truth is that I don’t believe Meghan Markle,” he wrote.
“And even if I did apologise, that wouldn’t be the end of it,” he continued. “The woke brigade would keep coming for me, demanding I apologise for everything else they find offensive – which of course, is absolutely everything. I called Kevin back, said I wouldn’t be apologising, and we agreed I’d leave GMB with immediate effect.”
