‘The Pioneer Woman’s White Clam Pizza May Become Your New Favorite Way to Enjoy a Slice
One can never accuse The Pioneer Woman star Ree Drummond of taking the safe way out when it comes to her recipes. The Oklahoma-based Food Network personality likes to try every which way to make a recipe even more delicious.
One of her latest? Her White Clam Pizza. This recipe may change how you do pizza night from now on.
The Food Network star made White Clam Pizza on her ‘Pioneer Woman’ show – with her mom
With her mom Gerre alongside her, Drummond cooked up White Clam Pizza, a marriage between a good old slice and saucy clams.
Food Network posted on their Instagram account about this dynamic duo joining forces in the kitchen: “White Clam Pizza @thepioneerwoman and her mom team up to make a crispy, golden White Clam Pizza! We want the whole pie!”
In this case, however, Ree wasn’t the one calling the shots; her mom was teaching her how to make this clever spin on pizza.
“White clam pizza,” Ree said in the Food Network’s video post. “I want my mom to kind of show us how it’s done. So, take it away, Gee! I’ll be your humble assistant. I’m gonna sit here and kind of stretch the pizza dough out onto the sheet pan and you’re gonna make the clam mixture for the pizza.”
How Ree Drummond and her mom’s White Clam Pizza gets done
The mother and daughter team’s recipe (full instructions here) calls for canned clams, olive oil, fresh oregano, red pepper flakes, fresh garlic, salt and pepper, one pound of pizza dough, grated mozzarella cheese, and grated Pecorino Romano cheese.
As Gee pointed out, the recipe “can be done with fresh clams.”
The chopped clams, garlic, oregano, olive oil, and red pepper flakes are combined in a bowl. The pizza dough is spread out onto a sheet pan and brushed with olive oil. Drummond noted that it’s not a bad idea to get “some olive oil on the rim [of the baking sheet] so it’s nice and greasy and oily.”
The cheeses are sprinkled on the pizza dough and the clam mixture is scattered evenly over the crust. While Gee shared that she bakes her pizza at 500 degrees on a pizza stone, Ree noted that she bakes hers at 450 degrees “to make sure the bread dough doesn’t burn.” The pizza cooks for between 8 to 15 minutes.
Drummond gushed as she took the finished product out of the oven: “Gee…yes, yes, yes! Oh it smells so good, that really reminds me, I need to put more garlic on my pizzas.”
The reviews are in for Drummond’s White Clam Pizza
While the reviews for this Pioneer Woman recipe were overwhelmingly glowing, one reviewer stated honestly that the recipe “had potential,” but pointed out the sodium in the clams along with that in the cheese made it “inedible” for them.
Another reviewer, however, said: “This was amazing! We saw it this morning on the show and just had to make it.”
“Easy to make as well,” said another reviewer. “It was awesome. Definitely a keeper recipe.”
