‘Power Book II: Ghost’: The Bizarre Way Daniel Bellomy Reportedly Got Into Character For Angry Zeke Scenes
Many fans of Power Book II: Ghost will agree that Daniel Bellomy had one of the most memorable performances on the show. He played Zeke Cross, the son of villains Monet Tejada and Mecca. Zeke was often left in the dark about his family’s criminal activities, resulting in some of the most dramatic and intense confrontations on the TV show. To channel those emotions, Bellomy allegedly used an interesting tactic.
How Daniel Bellomy reportedly got into character for angry scenes on ‘Power Book II: Ghost’
The method Bellomy allegedly used was shared by fellow Power Book II: Ghost star Gianni Paolo (Brayden Weston). He was talking on his and Michael Rainey Jr.’s podcast The Crew Has It when he recalled Bellomy telling him about using a tactic to film a difficult scene they had together.
“It was the scene where he gets framed for killing Jabari [Reynolds],” he recalled to Rainey (Tariq St. Patrick) and guest star Alix Lapri (Effie Morales). “So everyone thinks that he did it, so he keeps getting pulled in.”
He continued: “So there was a scene, it’s not in there, but Daniel comes up and he goes, ‘Did you know about this s***? You framed me and you knew Tariq did it?’ It was right when [Tariq] got arrested, and the scene was like, ‘No bro. I had no idea. Why are you coming at me?’ So he was supposed to be pissed at me.”
But behind the scenes, everyone was “having fun” because it was Paolo’s birthday.
“So we’re all on set. It’s like my birthday, everyone’s having fun,” he shared. “I said ‘morning’ to everyone. It’s like afternoon and Daniel walks past me and I was like, ‘What up, Daniel? Good morning.’ And he goes, ‘Nah,’ and just right walks by me.”
It was his attempt to get into the psyche of the character
Paolo said he initially thought he’d done something to anger his Power Book II: Ghost co-star.
“I was so confused because I do crazy s*** all of the time,” he remembered. “Like, I post videos of people… I’m like, damn, did I make fun of him or something? Did I do something? So then we shoot the scene, it’s over with, and then he comes up and he goes, ‘What up, bro? Aye, I was just really getting into it, so I’m sorry that I did that to you earlier.”
“That sounds exactly like something Daniel Bellomy [would do],” Lapri said, laughing. “… I can’t. I love him.”
His performance on ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ was gold to many viewers
Zeke’s naivety annoyed many viewers, but at the same time, it also resulted in many unintentionally hilarious moments. Sadly, he was killed in the show’s second season after he was confused for Mecca. Lorenzo Tejada is keeping what happened to Zeke a secret for now, but it’s only a matter of time before Monet learns the truth about Zeke’s death.
“She’s going to be a very different person next year,” Power creator and showrunner Courtney Kemp teased to TVLine. “Next season, the version of her that was trying to hold onto control in her world, that’s gone now. That’s over.”
“The plan’s gone. Her son’s gone,” she continued. “And if you were watching all along, she preferred him, did she not? She preferred him to her other kids. So now the chickens will come home to roost in terms of how she treated those children, in terms of what she was hoping for her future, all of that. And plus, her husband is guilty of the crime! There is that. She’s going to find out in a big way and that’s going to be… well, I’ll leave that for Season 3.”
Starz has yet to share the release date for Power Book II: Ghost Season 3, but the show could return as early as late 2022. We’ll see.
