‘Power Book II: Ghost’: The Confusion About Zeke’s Age Explained
Power Book II: Ghost just had one of its most explosive episodes ever. Diana Tejada (LaToya Tonodeo) aired out all of her family ‘s secrets. Most shockingly she revealed that her cousin Ezekiel “Zeke” Criss (Daniel Bellomy) is actually her bother. He is Monet’s (Mary J. Blige) secret son that no one was ever supposed to find out about.
Not only did Diana reveal the lies around Zeke’s parentage, but she also explained that he’s four years older than he believes he is.
Inside Zeke’s backstory on ‘Power Book II: Ghost’
Fans were absolutely floored early on in the season when it was revealed that Zeke isn’t actual Monet’s nephew. Instead, fans discovered that Monet got pregnant with Zeke when she was just 16. Zeke’s father is her high school boyfriend Dante aka Mecca (Daniel Sunjata), who never knew he had a son. Shortly after conceiving Zeke, Dante was arrested and sent off to the Army to straighten up.
From what we understand, Monet gave birth to Zeke in 1998 in a hospital in Willmington, North Carolina. He was then taken in by her sister Leah who raised Zeke as her own. Apparently, fans can prepare to meet Leah in Power Book II: Ghost Season 3. According to Power Universe creator Courtney Kemp, Leah is going to have a lot of questions about what’s been going on with her child.
Courtney Kemp explained the confusion about Zeke’s age
What was striking about Diana’s big reveal at the nuclear dinner was that Zeke and the rest of the Tejadas had assumed that he was born in 2002. In reality, Zeke was born in 1998. This means he’s 23, not 19 as he’d assumed. Not only was this shocking, but it also could potentially ruin his draft prospects with the NBA.
Though fans had accepted that Zeke’s parents are Monet and Mecca, they had trouble understanding why he believed the huge lie about his age. During a recent Instagram Live, Kemp cleared up the confusion.
“Zeke believes that he’s actually four years younger than he is,” she said. “People are like, how could you convince someone that they are the wrong age. I feel like every single one of you that’s asking that question, thinks they actually remember being one, two, and three years old. You don’t remember that, you don’t know what people are doing. Therefore, I just want to say that this story is not something we made up. This is a story of something that actually happened in my own family, where someone was told they were one age and they were actually another. This was something that happened a couple of generations before me. But what was passed down to me from my elders was basically that the person was told around the time they started celebrating birthdays that they could remember, they were just told the wrong age. It’s as simple as that. And, they were told they were really tall for their age.”
One fan cleared up some dates via Express. “Zeke is their son he was born in 1998, and Cane was born in 1999,” they said. “Meaning she had Zeke before meeting Lorenzo also remember her telling Mecca ‘this ain’t my mom house can’t be knocking over trash cans.’”
Will Lorenzo kill Monet on ‘Power Book II: Ghost’?
Now that Lorenzo knows that Monet has lied to him for their entire relationship he’s put her out of their shared home. However, since he takes loyalty so seriously, we think he’s going to have an even bigger reaction. We know that Lorenzo doesn’t always think things through, but we’re almost certain he’s going to try and kill Monet.
His character description for season 2 reads. “Lorenzo becomes intrigued by some secrets Monet has been keeping from him– and a conflict grows that threatens to split the Tejada family in two.”
