Power Book II: Ghost re-introduced a host of characters first seen in the 2014 series Power. One of them is Alix Lapri’s Effie Morales, the girl who betrayed Tariq St. Patrick in the sixth and final season. While the two were able to mend their relationship in Power Book II: Ghost, Lapri teases that Effie will only be “making things worse” in the upcoming second season.

Tariq and Effie’s relationship so far

Tariq’s relationship with Effie dates back to when he was a student at Choate. They sold drugs together and later became romantic, but they had a falling out after Effie submitted a tip about his drug dealing and got him expelled.

Years later, in Power Book II: Ghost, the two reconnected at Stansfield University, when Effie showed up looking for help moving product. While Tariq was initially cold and dismissive toward her, he had no choice but to help to pay off a debt. Soon, the two were back to how they used to be. But their relationship caused friction between Tariq and Brayden, who was left in the dark about the business.

Lapri on ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 2

As the second season nears, Lapri joined castmates Michael Rainey Jr. and Gianni Paolo for an interview with The Knockturnal. When asked what fans could expect from the next season, she teased there would be situations that Effie would escalate to even more serious levels. While she didn’t provide details, she noted that Effie’s actions wouldn’t come from a malicious place.

“Overall, I think she thinks she’s always thinking for the greater good of everyone — mostly for herself but for the boys as well,” she continued, around the 21:00 mark. “So it’s gonna be great to watch.”

Paolo also noted there would be clashes between Tariq and Brayden this season.

“It’s not a Brayden and Tariq scene if we’re not arguing about what’s going on with the business, so you’re going to see a lot of loyalty being tested,” he teased. “But you’re also going to see a lot of them bonding and truly understanding each other more and why we make these decisions.”

“You know, it’s Brayden and Tariq so we obviously have differences in what believe in,” Paolo continued. “But it’s all for the greater good, in my opinion. So you’re going to see a lot of deepening of relationships.”
