‘Power Book II: Ghost’: Fans Have so Many Questions About Monet, Mecca, and Zeke
The second season of Power Book II: Ghost has only just begun and already things are chaotic. Monet (Mary J. Blige) had been hoping to exit the drug game, riding on the coattails of her NBA-bound nephew Zeke (Daniel Bellomy). However, Zeke has found himself at the center of a murder investigation.
Ghost fans also learned that Zeke isn’t actually Monet’s nephew. Instead, he’s the son that she had with Mecca (Daniel Sunjata). Monet’s concealed her true connection with Zeke for all of these years. Now, fans are scrambling for answers.
Inside Monet and Mecca’s backstory in ‘Power Book II: Ghost”
We know that Monet and Mecca had a whirlwind romance when they were teens that involved a love for New Edition, Junior’s cheesecake, and sports cars. However, Mecca seemingly disappeared from Monet’s life to join the military, reappearing 20 years later.
“Let’s just say they had a relationship when they were teenagers, and he went off and now has become an international man of mystery, and has come back into her life at a really inopportune moment… it’s never a good time!,” Power Universe creator Courtney Kemp told TV Line.
However, in a recent episode of Ghost, we learned that Zeke, who we all assumed was Monet’s nephew is actually the son that she concealed from Mecca. “We need to fight for Zeke now,” Mecca tells Monet after uncovering the tuth. “Let me do that, by your side. We’ll save our son together.”
When was Zeke born?
We know that Zeke was conceived when Monet and Mecca were just teens and the drug queenpin and her family presumably decided to raise him as her nephew. However, one Power Universe fan worked out a timeline. “Zeke is their son he was born in 1998 and Cane was born in 1999,” they said via Express. “Meaning she had Zeke before meeting Lorenzo also remember her telling Mecca ‘this ain’t my mom house can’t be knocking over trash cans.’”
Fans are absolutely thrown by Zeke’s parentage, and now they are desperate to know what the NBA prospect knows about his parents.
Will Lorenzo find out about Zeke?
With Diana (LaToya Tonodeo) pushing for her father’s release, and Saxe (Shane Johnson) seemingly uncovering a path for Lorenzo’s release, it looks like the drug kingpin may be freed from prison this season. Obviously, this would cause major issues for Monet who is currently over her husband and very into Mecca. It would be especially volatile if Lorenzo were to uncover Monet’s affair with Mecca or Zeke’s true parentage.
However, hints from the press release on the character seem to hint that all hell is bound to break loose. “The patriarch of the Tejada organization, Lorenzo has been calling the shots for the drug organization — even from inside,” the official Starz release reads. “But as Monet continues to flex her independence — and a desire to protect her kids from the game– Lorenzo’s need to control brings them into conflict. Lorenzo becomes intrigued by some secrets Monet has been keeping from him– and a conflict grows that threatens to split the Tejada family in two.”
Since Lorenzo refused to let Monet mortgage their home for Zeke’s defense, we’re pretty certain that she will never forgive her husband.
