Cane Tejada (Woody McClain) has a pivotal role in Power Book II: Ghost. The eldest child of Monet (Mary J. Blige) and Lorenzo Tejada (Berto Colon), Cane thrives in chaos and violence. He was literally built for the life his family leads. His hot temper has also caused him a lot of issues when it comes to the family business, even getting him ousted from the family’s inner circle for some time.

Though Cane acts impulsively, he is desperate for approval, becoming a fan favorite in the series.

Cane from ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ is based on a character from ‘The Godfather

Fans are enamored by Cane and his hot temper and desperation to prove himself to his parents. In fact, Power Universe creator Courtney Kemp says the character is based on Santino “Sonny” Corleone’s character from The Godfather.

“Cane is a little bit modeled after Sonny Corleone, for those of you who are Godfather fans,” she said during an Instagram Live. “We really wanted that energy, that kind of hot-head energy, that Santino energy and Dru [Tejada] has a little bit of that Michael Corleone feel as well.”

Fans of The Godfather know that Sonny was the eldest of Vito’s sons. He was supposed to succeed his father. However, his volatile and impulsive nature got him killed, so Michael had to step in.

Fans think Cane is the best character in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’

Fans are obsessed with Cane. His recklessness is something we’ve seen in Kanan Stark (Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson) and fan-favorite character Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora). “Cane literally is the best character on Power right now the guy is too funny 😂 and always thinking about Tariq’s next move and making dumb decisions and so entertaining,” one Redditor said. “I hope he survives up to season 6 and eventually has a spin off show. Cane is to me what Kanan and Tommy’s roles were. He’s definitely my favorite.”

So far, Cane is certainly living up to his name. Cane’s real name is Lorenzo Tejada, Jr. The name Cane came from his childhood nickname, “Hurricane.” “As a kid, he used to run around the house so much, he acted like a hurricane,”  Kemp said during an Instagram Live.

‘Power Book II: Ghost’: Fans Are Convinced Tariq Will Kill Monet and Lorenzo Tejada to Take Over Their Drug Empire

Cane and Tariq could team up in ‘Ghost’ Season 3

In the second season of Ghost, in a wave of jealousy and ego, Cane framed Tariq for the murder of Professor Jabari Reynolds (Justin McManus) and an NYPD officer that was having an affair with his mother, Monet. While Tariq did kill Jabari, Cane was an accomplice, and he was responsible for the death of the police officer.

Since his release from prison, Tariq has known that he intends to act revenge against Cane. However, things are complicated because he works for the Tejada family. Cane is known for his recklessness, but he is also fearless an asset. When asked if the pair would team up in season 3, Kemp told her fans on Instagram Live to keep watching.
