Power Book II: Ghost centers on Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.) in the months following the death of his father, notorious drug kingpin, James “Ghost” St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick). Over the first two seasons of the series, fans have watched Tariq transform from a whiny teen into a man who wanted to do whatever it took to protect his family.

In fact, fans believe that season 2 was better than season 1.

Tariq St. Patrick has gone through a major transformation in the ‘Power’ Universe

Fans were introduced to Tariq at age 12 in the first season of Power. Though he initially started off as a background character, as he stepped into his teen years. He became a much more pivotal figure. Upon discovering his father, Ghost’s dual life, including his drug empire and his affair with Angela Valdez (Lela Loren), Tariq began to rebel.

He began acting out and causing chaos in his family. His actions eventually led to his twin sister’s death. At the end of Power, we watched the teen shoot and kill his father in cold blood. As a result, he became one of the most hated characters on TV.

However, Tariq’s showcased major growth in Power Book II: Ghost. “A lot of you guys are constantly talking about Ghost coming back,” Power Universe creator Courtney Kemp said during an Instagram Live. “Without going into super detail, what I will definitely say is that part of the reason why I started writing this show was about my father’s death. The thing about that and what I’m really trying to demonstrate is that Tariq is Ghost on earth. Tariq is Ghost alive. He is learning things and changing before our very eyes. Tariq is growing into a man.”

‘Power Book II: Ghost’ fans think Season 2 was better than Season 1

Though Ghost was in danger of just becoming Power set on a college campus, it has become much more of that. Introducing the Tejada crime family, helmed by matriarch Monet Tejada (Mary J. Blige) has truly transformed the series. The first season was really just about expanding the universe through Tariq’s eyes.

However, in moving beyond the college campus in season 2 the series has become a true family drama with elements of a drug show infused within it.

To that in Ghost fans believe that season 2 was much better than the first season.

‘Ghost’ Season 3 is going to be shocking

Now that filming for season 3 is underway, fans are thrilled to see what’s next. “There will be fault lines drawn between Tariq and his friends, for various reasons,” Kemp explained to Entertainment Weekly. “And then those will affect some fault lines that will be drawn within the Tejada family. There will be a series of earthquakes, and then a series of aftershocks that will shake the foundation and remake the series in a really sort of impactful way. That’s season 3.”
