Power Book II: Ghost is proving to be a very successful spinoff of its parent series, Power. After only a few months on the air, it seems to be reaching the same heights. Back again to help anchor the spinoff is a love-to-hate character from the original series, Tariq St. Patrick. The character is portrayed by Michael Rainey Jr. But some fans have wondered how tall is the actor?
‘Power Book II: Ghost’ airs on Starz
Power Book II; Ghost is one of four planned spinoffs of the hit Starz drama from Courtney Kemp and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. The show stars Mary J. Blige and Method Man, as well as returning stars Rainey and Naturi Naughton. Also returning from the original series Shane Johnson, Gianni Paolo and Quincy Tyler Bernstine. New cast members for Power Book II: Ghost include Daniel Bellomy, Paige Hurd, Melanie Liburd, Justin McManus, Woody McClain, Lovell Adams-Gray and LaToya Tonodeo.
What the creator and network say about the upcoming new season
The show has already been renewed for its second season. “The success of Ghost right out of the gate is a tribute to the quality of Courtney’s storytelling, the strength of the Power franchise and the loyalty of our incredible fans,” said Starz Programming president Christina Davis in a statement at the time of renewal. “What Courtney, Curtis and their team have accomplished in creating the Power universe is nothing short of extraordinary. It is a privilege to be able to continue the journey of Power with the audience and we look forward to delving deeper into this world in exciting new ways for many seasons to come.”
Kemp also had similar sentiments as well. “I am incredibly humbled by and grateful for the response from our Power fans — the best fans in the world, period,” she said. “To have our fans return — and bring new viewers to the first spinoff in the Power Universe — is a dream come true. Back in 2012, 50, Mark [Canton] and I were warned that a premium series with leads of color would never work for a global audience. But we’ve proven everyone wrong — and thanks to Starzplay, we have fans in the UK, France, Mexico, Brazil and beyond, all plugging into the Power Universe. In the second season, Tariq’s journey with the Tejada family will get even more complicated — and more dangerous — as he begins to understand the man he’s going to become.”
Tariq St. Patrick is a signature role in Michael Rainey Jr.’s young career
Though he’s only 20 years old, Rainey has the distinction of being one of just a few notable younger actors to have such a huge role that is associated with them at such a young age. According to Rainey’s IMDb page, he is 5’10”.
On the changes with Tariq between the two shows, the actor said in an interview, “I definitely feel like Tariq is growing up. He’s making better decisions and being smart, and he’s thinking about the people that surround him, rather than just thinking about himself, or just acting awful and being upset at his family. Now his mom is in jail, grandma is there taking care of his little sister. So it’s like, he can’t really do all the crazy stuff he’s been doing in the last seasons. He has to really grow up and think for his family.”
