Power debuted on Starz in 2014 and became one of the biggest dramas on cable after Game of Thrones. The series starred Omari Hardwick as James “Ghost” St. Patrick, who ran one of the biggest drug organizations in New York with his lifelong friend and business partner Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora). In Season 1 of Power, Ghost is trying to find a new path for himself. Exhausted with his violent life, he is trying to become a legit businessman by opening his new nightclub, Truth.

However, he soon realizes leaving the life he’s always known behind him will nearly be impossible. Over the course of six seasons of the series, Power fans watched Ghost’s life unravel around him as he got entangled with his high school sweetheart, Angela Valdez (Lela Loren), who also happened to be an FBI attorney while becoming increasingly estranged from his wife, Tasha (Naturi Naughton) and their three children.

In the final season of Power, Ghost was killed by his teenage son, Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.). The Power Universe has continued with its spinoff Power Book II: Ghost which chronicles Tariq’s life in the aftermath of his father’s death. In Season 2 of Power Book II: Ghost, it looks like we could be meeting a secret family member of Ghost’s

Why was Omari Hardwick’s character nicknamed ‘Ghost’ in ‘Power’?

Born in Queens, New York, Ghost got caught up in the drug game following his father’s death after moving to live with Tommy and his mother. The best friend duo began selling drugs as a means of survival. They began as corner boys, selling for dealers Kanan (Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson) and Breeze. Eventually, Kanan and Ghost conspired together to kill Breeze, which put Kanan at the head of his organization.

However, ever ambitious, Ghost and Tasha set up Kanan to be arrested so that Ghost and Tommy could take his place. We’re not sure how Kanan never saw this betrayal coming. After all, Ghost earned his nickname due to his ability to be on the streets and then vanished before being spotted by police.

In fact, before the launch of his club Truth, he was never even photographed publicly. Being in the limelight led in part to his downfall.

Will Omari Hardwick appear in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’?

Power ended with Ghost bleeding out on the floor of Truth after Tariq shot him. However, many Power fans aren’t convinced Ghost is actually dead. Many people believe that the gunshot wound he suffered wasn’t fatal and others believe they’ve already spotted him in Power Book II: Ghost.

In one scene in the new show, Tariq is standing at his father’s grave when an ambulance goes by in the background. Fans recalled that the only other time we’ve seen an ambulance in Power was after Ghost was shot at Truth. Eagle-eyed fans also pointed out a shadowy figure who appears to be scoping Tariq out in the cemetery.

Though these theories are great, fans should note that following Power, Hardwick has become increasingly busy. He is currently starring in Zack Synder’s Army of the Dead and he’s been tapped to star in a new Netflix thriller opposite Halle Berry titled The Mothership. However, that shadowy figure is seen in Power Book II: Ghost may still be very important

Does James ‘Ghost’ St. Patrick have a secret brother?

During a bombshell, Q&A on Instagram via The Sun, Power creator Courtney A. Kemp answered some burning questions from fans. “Does Ghost have a secret sister?” one fan asked. Kemp responded, “No. Not a sister. Hint, hint, hint, hint, hint, hint, hint, hint, hint, hint.”

It appears that that shadowy figure seen at the graveyard might be the Tariq’s secret uncle. As we know we’ve already met Ghost’s father’s brother who attended his funeral, but only time will tell if other family members come out of the woodwork.
