‘Power Book II: Ghost’: Michael Rainey Jr. and Woody McClain Once Argued Over Their Characters’ Clothes
In Power Book II: Ghost, Michael Rainey Jr. portrays college student Tariq St. Patrick who is also juggling his life as a burgeoning drug dealer in the Tejada crime family’s organization. Despite their characters’ animosity toward one another, Rainey and Woody McClain who portrays Cane Tejada on the show are super cool.
However, the actors did have a bit of a fight over who got to wear one particular jacket while filming the show.
Michael Rainey Jr. says Tarq’s wardrobe in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ is epic
Rainey has been portraying his character Tariq for seven years and across two different shows. Tariq has grown a great deal from season 1 of Power until Power Book II: Ghost but Rainey explained that the thing he loves the most is how his character’s wardrobe has expanded.
“I wish I could get to borrow or keep some of the clothes,” the actor told Page Six Style. “[With] reshoots, they don’t wanna give away certain wardrobe pieces. I’m not gonna lie, though: After this season I’m gonna need some of that drip, because the stuff is crazy. Tariq’s style has definitely improved from Season 1 to now. It’s always been the name-brand stuff, but now it’s just through the roof. Now they got spicy; it’s gotten way more swagged out.”
Michael Rainey Jr. and Woody McClain once argued over a jacket on the set of ‘Power Book II: Ghost’
Rainey and the rest of the actors on the set of Power Book II: Ghost take their looks very seriously. So much so that Rainey and McClain got into an argument over a jacket, that ultimately was used for McClain’s character Cane. “There are times we fight over clothes,” Rainey told Page Six Style. “There’s one jacket that Woody [McClain] got to wear that I wanted. When I saw it I was like, ‘Damn, I wish they would put me in it.’ I was like, ‘Damn, he got the big racks on that day.’ But it definitely fit Cane as a character. His character needed that jacket.”
We’re going to have to see how each of the men’s styles is elevated when Power Book II: Ghost returns for season 2.
What is ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 2 about?
Though McClain was able to able to snag the infamous $10,000 Louis Vuitton jacked during season 1 of Ghost, there will be a plethora of options for both men to choose from when the series returns in November 2021 for season 2. Though Tariq and Cane formed somewhat of a truce at the end of the first season of Ghost, we don’t know how much longer that will last now that Tariq is in the Tejada inner circle and Cane has been ousted.
“When it comes to Cane, he’s all about family,” McClain explained to Complex. “His thing is family first. I don’t care what I’m going through, I’m going to make sure my family is good. That’s something that I can relate to in real life. I don’t care, I’ll make sure everybody in my family has a car before I even buy myself one. I’m always putting my family first. So, that’s how [I think about] every role that I take on—I make sure that I can relate to it on a personal and real level.”
In season 2, we will also see Tariq’s distrust of the Tejadas. “He’s definitely feeling alone, because he can’t trust anybody, especially not the Tejada family,” Rainey told Entertainment Weekly. “They’re in business with each other, so it’s a different type of trust. At the beginning of season two, he’s more alone than ever and he’s trying to figure it out. He still has his people around him, he just doesn’t have anyone that he can put all his trust in.”
