‘Power Book II: Ghost’: Michael Rainey Jr. Wants This Actor on the Show
Power Book II: Ghost is a hit for various reasons, but perhaps the best part of the TV show is the cast. The series stars Michael Rainey Jr. as Tariq St. Patrick, the oldest child of late drug kingpin James “Ghost” St. Patrick. In an effort to meet the terms of the inheritance left by his father, Tariq signs up for classes at Stansfield University to earn his degree. But when he begins to sell drugs on the side, his future becomes threatened. In addition to Rainey, the cast of Power Book II: Ghost includes Mary J. Blige, Method Man, and Larenz Tate.
Rainey also has ideas for who he’d like to see on the show in the future, naming an actor beloved by many.
Michael Rainey Jr. wants this actor on ‘Power Book II: Ghost’
Rainey’s comments came while chatting on the podcast The Crew Has It, which he hosts with his Ghost co-star Gianni Paolo. They were speaking to Effie Morales actor Alix Lapri, when they asked her who she’d want to appear on the show. As she mulled over the question, Paolo picked Leonardo DiCaprio while Rainey Jr. chose comedian and actor Mike Epps.
“Oooh, Mike Epps,” Lapri replied, around the 31:50 mark. “…OK so I feel like I want to pick a woman then. Maybe like… Queen Latifah. I could really see her playing like, I don’t know… maybe a family member of the Tejadas. She plays that kind of stuff so well. Like that cold, heartless, ruthless woman.”
“She could even be a f****** gangster too,” Rainey chimed in saying, clearly loving that idea as well. “She would be a fire gangster. Like, we run into her doing business and she comes and f**** our s*** up. That would be fire too.”
For now, Epps and Queen Latifah seem booked and busy with projects such as his Netflix sitcom The Upshaws and her CBS show The Equalizer. But of course, anything is possible.
In the meantime, ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ will feature several other special actors
In the meantime, fans can look forward to several other actors joining the show next season.
Deadline reports that Gbenga Akinnagbe will play a character named Ron Samuel Jenkins. Ron, aka RSJ, is a graduate of Howard University and Harvard Business School “who grew up working class and built his own legitimate empire that has firmly entrenched him among the business elite.”
Caroline Chikezie will portray Noma, “a worldly and powerful woman with a regal presence who has built her wealth with an illicit global empire and is not afraid to protect it by any means necessary.”
Monique Curnen is also back as Blanca Rodriguez to investigate Mecca’s murder. Fans will recall that Monet Tejada killed him in the Power Book II: Ghost Season 2 finale, but Blanca is under the impression that Tariq did it after seeing him on video at Mecca’s penthouse.
In addition to them, Deadline reports that David Walton will play a Wall Street executive named Lucas Weston. Lucas works at a firm owned by his family and is described as an “adventure-seeking, left-leaning high-level executive.”
And lastly, Moriah Brown will appear as Kiki Travis. Kiki “doesn’t come from privilege” but “she’s Ivy League-educated” and “making her own way in the world of the business elite.”
Expect the show to return in 2022
Though the exact release date for Power Book II: Ghost Season 3 is still unknown, the show is expected to return to Starz in 2022. A late 2022 premiere seems most likely, based on past patterns. But nothing has been confirmed.
Before that, Starz will release the second season of Power Book III: Raising Kanan. No exact date has been shared, but Starz has promised that it’ll be here sometime in the summer. Read more about that show here.
