‘Power Book II: Ghost’: Redman Will Join Method Man for Season 2
Power Book II: Ghost Season 2 is currently being filmed in New York City. Though Starz has not yet announced the release date for the upcoming season, fans are already getting some insider information about what they can expect to see.
Power Book II: Ghost chronicles Tariq St. Patrick’s (Michael Rainey Jr.) life as a college student and undercover drug kingpin. Season 1 centered his journey to get his mother, Tasha St. Patrick (Naturi Naughton), out of prison, as well as the alliance he formed with the Tejada family and its cutthroat matriarch, Monet Stewart Tejada (Mary J. Blige).
Season 2 is shaping up to be even more explosive than the first season, with hip-hop icon Redman joining the cast.
Inside ‘Power Book II: Ghost’: Season 2
Series creator and showrunner Courtney A. Kemp gave gans a hint about what fans can expect from season 2. “In the second season, Tariq’s journey with the Tejada family will get even more complicated — and more dangerous — as he begins to understand the man he’s going to become,” Kemp told TVLine.
Along with Redman, actor Daniel Sunjata has been cast on the show as Mecca, the Tejadas’ calculated, manipulative, and dangerous drug supplier.
Method Man stars as attorney Davis Maclean on ‘Power Book II: Ghost’
In Power Book II, Method Man, whose given name is Clifford Smith, stars as Tasha’s defense attorney Davis Maclean. Though Davis is very good at his job, he tends to have some unsavory practices when getting his clients off.
Method Man joined the Power Universe because of producer 50 Cent. “See, I got Meth. I had to work to get him,” 50 Cent explained on XXL‘s Hip-Hop Moments of Clarity podcast. “Man, he ain’t gon’ tell you how I was begging him to do this.”
Who will Redman play in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’?
For some time, Kemp has spoken about wanting to get Method Man’s Wu-Tang Clan brother, Redman on Power Book II as Davis’ brother. “My dream is to get Redman to do it,” Kemp told TVLine in 2020. “That’s my dream… but I don’t know yet. We haven’t gotten there yet.” Now it appears that the showrunner’s dreams have come true.
Redman, whose given name is Reggie Noble has been cast on the series as Theo Rollins, Maclean’s older brother. Starz’s official description for the character reads,
Theo Rollins used to run the streets with his little brother, Davis MacLean. But now, they sit on opposite sides of the law with Theo serving an extensive prison term, and Davis, off his win in the Tasha St. Patrick case, now the biggest defense attorney in New York City. They both know, had the past played out differently, Davis could be locked up alongside his big brother, but Theo questions if the guilt’s enough for Davis to keep his promise.
Power fans will recall Davis telling Tasha that he once represented his brother. Apparently, things didn’t go so well. This is a welcome twist for fans who’ve always placed Method Man and Redman together, even though the men are not actually blood-related.
