The first images from Power Book II: Ghost Season 2 have finally arrived. The show is a spinoff of Power and focuses on Tariq St. Patrick, the son of the late drug lord Ghost. Tariq is a smart kid with a promising future, but just like his father, he chooses the street life. He becomes involved with queenpin Monet Tejada, figuring she can help him get money the quickest. But with that comes a lot of challenges.

Next season, Monet will find a rival in Daniel Sunjata’s Mecca. Sunjata was announced for the second season a few months back, but we’re just getting a look at him on the show. See the photo and more about the series, here.

The finale of ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 1 set up the next season

The first season of Power Book II: Ghost left many of its characters in precarious positions. For her part, Monet Tejada is without a supplier after killing Rico during a disagreement. She tried to seek help from family fixer Officer Ramirez, not realizing Cane Tejada had just killed him in a fit of rage. However, she’ll find a new distro in Mecca.

“He is calculated, manipulative, and dangerous,” his character description reads, according to Deadline. “Mecca conveniently reemerges in New York at the exact moment the Tejadas need to fill the void of a new product supplier. But when his mysterious past starts to become exposed, it reveals the drug business might not be his only end game with this family.”

TVLine adds that Monet will find herself “in bed with Mecca, a man who wants to show her a whole new world, potentially at the cost of destroying her old one, forcing Monet to lean on Tariq, who must decide what he really wants and what he’s going to sacrifice to get it.”

In September, Entertainment Weekly published a photo of Monet and Mecca showing them having what appears to be a tense conversation. See it via the link above.

What else to expect in the second season of ‘Power Book II: Ghost’

The show will also explore the aftermath of the murder of Professor Jabari Reynolds, which Power creator and showrunner Courtney Kemp says will cause a “big response” at their school.

“Where we had begun an encroachment of [Tariq’s] drug life into his school life with the incidents that took place in episode 8 with the attempt on his life and the body in the pool, now his whole drug life is crashed into his campus life in a real way,” she told EW. “And Tariq definitely feels like he’s walking around as a ticking time bomb. His relationships are going to get more complicated, and while that’s all happening he’s still got a love life.”

The trailer shows Tariq carrying on as if nothing happened, but deep down, he’s struggling with what he’s done.

“[The murder] will affect Tariq, because everything Tariq does affects him,” Michael Rainey Jr. (Tariq St. Patrick) previously told EW. “A lot of things that he does, it’s more because he has to do it just to survive. It’s definitely going to mess with him. Nobody really wants to kill, so he’s definitely going to have to learn to live with that.”
