‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Showrunner Hints at Tariq and Diana Romance in Season 2
After a months-long wait, Power Book II: Ghost is back with another season. Beginning after Ghost’s death in Power, the show follows his son, Tariq St. Patrick, as he adjusts to his new world while juggling school and a drug empire. He slowly morphs into Ghost and becomes involved with dangerous criminals, including the Tejada crime family. But there are other things going on too, like Tariq’s love triangle.
Tariq — as Brushaundria Carmichael put it in a recent episode — has finally “nailed down” his classmate Lauren Baldwin. But it looks like he and Diana Tejada will have something going on too.
Life is hectic for Tariq St. Patrick in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 2
After leaving fans on a cliffhanger, Power Book II: Ghost returned to Starz in November. This season begins after the death of Jabari Reynolds, a professor at Stansfield University who had become obsessed with Tariq. He’d tried to blackmail Tariq after learning he was selling drugs around campus but was killed by Tariq and Cane Tejada as a result.
After covering up the murder, Tariq tries to keep the police from discovering he and Cane were involved. But his plan is complicated by various issues. Life is so busy for Tariq that he barely has time for a relationship, but he’s still trying with Lauren.
Complications will seemingly arise in Tariq and Lauren’s relationship
While Tariq and Lauren have great chemistry, sparks have always flown between Tariq and Diana too. Lately, the two have been keeping it strictly professional, but it looks like their relationship will heat up again.
The trailer for Power Book II: Ghost Season 2 sees Tariq and Diana kissing, around the 1:08 mark. Courtney Kemp, who created and showruns the series, reminded fans of that scene when discussing the show on Instagram Live in December. While she was careful not to reveal too much, she noted on another Instagram Live that Tariq “is not a player,” suggesting something will go wrong in his relationship with Lauren.
Perhaps it’s that Lauren helped get him arrested. Busted for drugs, she was forced into wearing a wire to help police undercover any other activity, ultimately leading to Tariq’s arrest. Although Lauren didn’t know police were considering him a suspect, Tariq might think otherwise.
Kemp teased the next episode on Instagram Live
Kemp hinted Tariq would feel furious after his arrest.
“Tariq has trusted a lot of people. He has been close to a lot of people. He has not had his head on a swivel like he needs to, so he’s going to have a few feelings,” she said. “There’s going to be a few feelings. So that’s gonna happen for sure. Coming out and having the anger of being betrayed is going to shift you in a way … so just think about those things.”
She noted Tariq could get out with Brayden Weston’s help. But that won’t be the end of his problems.
“There’s going to be repercussions on campus because [Tariq’s] not there,” she continued. “The next thing I definitely feel like is important to talk about — and I think if we want to call episode 5 a triple-hander [with] Cane, Monet, and Tariq — episode 6 has a lot of double-hander things because something horrible happens to Tariq and Monet is stuck with her husband being home, which is really a big shift.”
“If you guys remember, Lorenzo has a very specific way of doing things and he likes to tell people what to do, so we’ll see,” she added.
