‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Showrunner Addresses Ramona Garrity’s Future on the Show
By the time Power Season 6 rolled around, James St. Patrick was on the brink of having the legitimate life he’d spent all those years working to achieve. He had good chances of winning the race for lieutenant governor in New York and had found love with Ramona Garrity. But he was tragically killed in the series finale. Here’s what happened to Ramona and her actor and what the show creator said about her potential return.
What happened to Ramona in ‘Power’
Ramona was first introduced in Power Season 6 when James (Omari Hardwick) was campaigning to become New York’s next lieutenant governor.
Portrayed by Cynthia Addai-Robinson, she was a political consultant who worked with people such as Rashad Tate and Lorette Walsh. She and James got close on the campaign trail, eventually becoming lovers and working together to reach James’ goals. The last time viewers saw Ramona was in the wake of James’ death, when she went to congratulate Tate on his newfound success. “You should’ve never bet against me, boo,” Tate told her, coldly.
In the penultimate episode of Power, Tate was confronted by reporters and questioned about his judgment and leadership after allegations about James’ drug-dealing emerged. He flipped the question around by saying Ramona was the one who introduced James to his campaign and exposed her “adulterous affair” with James. After learning of what he told the reporter, Ramona violently confronted him at his penthouse and stormed out.
Ramona has since disappeared from the ‘Power’ shows
After the conclusion of Power, Starz unveiled Power Book II: Ghost, a spinoff centering James’ son, Tariq St. Patrick. Set immediately after James’ death, the show features many familiar faces — but not Ramona.
Recently, creator and showrunner Courtney Kemp was asked on Instagram Live whether Ramona would ever show up again. While she did not confirm or deny anything, she noted that the actor is busy with other things at the moment. That includes the Amazon Prime drama Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, slated to air on Sept. 2, according to Den of Geek.
With that, it looks like she won’t be returning any time soon. But Kemp has also said time and time again that if a character isn’t dead, there’s always a possibility that they can show up again.
Other character returns are expected in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’
In the meantime, fans have other character returns to look forward to. Kemp said that there are several cameos in Power Book II: Ghost Season 2, which is currently playing out on Starz. But of course, they’re being kept a secret.
This season of Ghost will run until Feb. 6 — the same day that Starz will debut the fourth chapter, Power Book IV: Force. Starring Joseph Sikora, the show follows Tommy Egan in the days after James’ death. He leaves New York for California, but makes a stop in Chicago to settle some family business.
