Power Book II: Ghost follows Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.) in the aftermath of his father’s death. Though this is a younger show about college students, Ghost still has some parallels to Power. In fact, fans often compare the relationship Tariq has with his best friend Brayden (Gianni Paolo) to the one that his father, James “Ghost” St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick) had with his best friend Tommy (Joseph Sikora).

However, Tommy and Brayden couldn’t be more different. in fact, there is something major that separates them.

Tariq finally trusts Brayden completely on ‘Power Book II: Ghost’

Before Power Book II: Ghost Season 2 premiered, Paolo hinted that Brayden would be having a much bigger role this season. “It’s not a Brayden and Tariq scene if we’re not arguing about what’s going on with the business, so you’re going to see a lot of loyalty being tested,” Paolo told The Knockturnal. “But you’re also going to see a lot of them bonding and truly understanding each other more and why we make these decisions. You know, it’s Brayden and Tariq so we obviously have differences in what believe in. But it’s all for the greater good, in my opinion. So you’re going to see a lot of deepening of relationships.”

Since Tariq had previously kept Brayden in the dark about certain things, Cane (Woody McClain) was able to manipulate him and frame Tariq for murder. After a major blowout, the men finally found themselves on the same page with Tariq fully letting Brayden know all of his secrets.

However, just as the pair were on the same footing, Tariq betrayed Brayden’s trust by telling Rashad Tate (Larenz Tate) about the scandalous photo involving Brayden’s father and Senator Sweeney. We don’t think Brayden is going to ignore that huge breach of trust.

Tommy and Brayden are very different

Looking at the dynamic between Brayden and Tariq, Power Universe fans always compare them to Tommy and Ghost. However, Power Universe creator Courtney Kemp says that couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, Tommy and Brayden are lightyears apart.

“One of the things that is really a difference between Tommy and Brayden is that the way that Tommy could help Ghost was all physical it was all force, that’s why the spinoff is called Force,” Kemp explained on Instagram Live. “It was all about physicality, it was all about mass times acceleration. Brayden is really well connected. Because of his family name, he is able to move and do things that Tommy never could have dreamed of. in the same way that Tariq had access that Ghost never could have dreamed of.”

Will Tariq and Brayden kill Cane?

Though there is clearly going to be some tension between Brayden and Tariq regarding the photo, we do think the duo may team up to eliminate Cane.

“Tariq has trusted a lot of people,” Kemp said during an Instagram Live. “He has been close to a lot of people. He has not had his head on a swivel like he needs to, so he’s going to have a few feelings. There’s going to be a few feelings. So that’s gonna happen for sure. Coming out and having the anger of being betrayed is going to shift you in a way … so just think about those things.” Kemp also revealed that there is a major character death in episode 208.

McClain has even hinted at his character’s death. When he was asked what would happen with Cane this season, McClain responded with a single emoji, an image of a casket.
