‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ fans are pointing out the similarities between Kanan and Tariq
As Power Book III: Raising Kanan is headed to its season 1 finale, fans are pointing out the similarities between Kanan and Power Universe character Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey). For six seasons on Power, fans watched Tariq become increasingly rebellious, making horrible choices that eventually led to his twin sister Raina’s (Donshea Hopkins) death and his mother’s eventual incarceration among many other things.
Now, as Kanan has desperately tried to infiltrate himself into his mother’s business without taking the time to learn the drug game, his decisions also have terrible consequences.
Now fans are pointing out the similarities between both men. “That’s fun to hear that there’s some of Tariq in young Kanan,” Rainey told Entertainment Weekly. That’s making me even more excited.”

However, while Tariq has redeemed himself in some ways as the lead in Power Book II: Ghost, fans are beginning to hate Kanan. Thus far, his poor judgment and desperation to prove himself has led to the death of his good friend, D-Wiz (Nile Bullock), gotten his mother’s stash house robbed by rival drug dealer Unique (Joey Bada$$), and now it’s lead to the death of his cousin Jukebox’s (Hailey Kilgrove) first love, Nicole (Annabelle Zasowski.)
Fans have become increasingly fed up with Kanan and his antics. “Kanan mistakes are always more costly for the people around him than he realizes, poor Jukebox,” one fan tweeted via Express. “Kanan should of just stayed in f—— school, he keep f—— up every time, 1 good idea don’t make you a Kingpin Chile,” another added.
Now, fans have also begun to piece together the fracture in Kanan and Jukebox’s relationship.
‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ just explained the fracture in Kanan and Jukebox’s relationship
When Power Universe fans first met Jukebox, portrayed by Anika Noni Rose in the third season of Power, she was a dirty NYPD cop who only cared about herself. However, she does appear to have a soft spot for her cousin Kanan (Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson). However, fans were shocked when Kanan ultimately killed his cousin and best friend in order to protect Tariq.
Now, in Power Book III: Raising Kanan fans are beginning to see the crack in the cousin’s relationship. Ultimately, Kanan causes Nicole’s death when he makes a rushed and deadly batch of crack cocaine that Nicole gets a hold of and takes. Clearly once Jukebox finds out about this, the cousins will never be the same.
