‘Power Book IV: Force’: Joseph Sikora on Tommy’s Big Family Secret
[Warning: This article contains spoilers for Power Book IV: Force Season 1 Episode 2.]
Kate Egan never fails to surprise us. In the Feb. 13 episode of Power Book IV: Force, Tommy Egan learned he had a brother, JP Gibbs, that Kate kept secret. Kate had JP with another man when she was younger but abandoned them to return to New York. She never told Tommy about her oldest child.
How did Joseph Sikora react to finding out about Tommy Egan’s brother? The actor shared his response in an interview.
Joseph Sikora revealed his reaction to finding out about Tommy Egan’s brother
Speaking to Digital Spy, Sikora noted that he reacted with excitement, mainly because of the chance to work with Anthony Fleming III (JP), whom he considers a dear friend.
“My reaction was, is that I thought, ‘Wow, what a wonderful opportunity to work with my old friend and colleague, and college alumnus, Anthony Fleming III’. We actually had done a play together in Chicago years and years ago, so I was really excited to work with him,” said Sikora.
“He’s such a brilliant actor,” he added. “He’s got that great deep voice and gravitas, and almost this kind of Shakespearean command, but also just that the character is kind of unsure and we find out that things haven’t been going great for him and it’ll be a very interesting family dynamic as well I think.”
In the same episode, viewers learn that JP is divorced from his husband and estranged from his son. He’s also struggling financially as a result of his father’s medical bills, leading Tommy to step in and offer some support. While JP initially resisted, he gave in and accepted the money.
JP’s world to be ‘forever altered’ by Tommy
Fleming spoke about JP in an interview with TV Fanatic. The actor noted that while he appears one way, there’s more than what meets the eye with him.
“He’s a little bit more established in Chicago, but at the same time is in the midst of his own struggles. He’s sort of, without going into too much detail, he’s losing pieces of himself,” Fleming shared. “He’s trying to grasp that in a real way. And of course, everyone who collides with Tommy Egan, their world is forever altered.”
Fleming said he was excited for people to see more from JP and the chemistry he and Tommy would share.
“I’m excited for people to see from JP a man who is losing like I said, some pieces of himself and how he is,” he continued. “It’s a fight to keep it together. And I think that’s something that our main character, Tommy, is also going through. I think there are some really interesting parallels between Tommy and JP that I think the fans will really dig into for sure.”
