‘Power Book V: Influence ‘: The Status of the Show Revealed by Larenz Tate
Several Power spinoffs are in the works, but one we haven’t heard much about is Power Book V: Influence. Starring Larenz Tate, the show will follow the life of crooked councilman Rashad Tate after the events in the finale of the original series. In an interview, Tate offered an update on the status of the TV show, but it’s probably not what people wanted to hear.
First, a recap of what happened to councilman Tate on ‘Power’
With James St. Patrick out of the way, Tate was able to rejoin the race for the next governor of New York. But he still faces enemies, including Ramona Garrity, who will likely want to get revenge on him for leaking her relationship with St. Patrick to the press. There’s also his brother Kamaal Tate, a police officer whose morals often clash with the councilman.
Tate appeared briefly in Power Book II: Ghost — the spinoff following Tariq St. Patrick as he builds his own criminal empire — where he lied about James’ misdeeds to prevent any connection to the drug boss. It’s just one of many examples showing how he’ll do anything to get to the top.

As the spinoffs move forward, Tate did an interview with The Jasmine Brand, where he was asked about his character’s future. He suggested he’s not aware of all the details, possibly because there are so many other shows ahead of Power Book V: Influence. But he teased that fans might see him in one of the shows closer to coming out.
“Who knows if you’re gonna see him pop up somewhere,” he said. “The moment I know what’s happening, y’all will know what’s happening.”
His comments echo what Power creator and showrunner Courtney Kemp previously told Entertainment Weekly when asked about her spinoff plans. She explained she’s “patterning it after Marvel, where different characters come in and out of other people’s shows. So there’s crossovers and some of your favorite characters will come back, even if they don’t get their own spin-off, they will show up in places. We’re trying to really do it for the fans, to give the most of what they want.”
Which spinoff is airing next?
The next show coming to air is Power Book III: Raising Kanan, the prequel series focused on the early life of Power antagonist Kanan Start, which is expected to come out in the summer of 2020.
Then there’s Power Book IV: Force, which will follow Tommy Egan as he moves to a new city and rebuilds his life. However, actor Joseph Sikora (Tommy Egan) has suggested the second season of Power Book II: Ghost could come out first, presumably because it’s deeper into production.
If we were to estimate, we’d say Tate’s spinoff might not air until some time in 2022 at the earliest. But that depends on the team and the pace of production. We’ll keep you updated with any news as it becomes available.
