‘Pretty Little Liars’ Helped Patrick J. Adams Win Back Troian Bellisario After a Breakup
Fans of Pretty Little Liars might know that celebrity couple, Troian Bellisario and Patrick J. Adams both appeared on the hit Freeform show. However, not many know that the show is to thank for the couple reuniting after they initially broke up. But just how did this married couple meet, and how did Pretty Little Liars manage to bring them together?
Though Bellisario and Adams have been married since 2016, their relationship dates all the way back to 2009. The two actors met on set of the play Equivocation, where Bellisario was cast as Adams’ love interest. Though there wasn’t an initial romantic spark between the Pretty Little Liars alum and the Suits star, the pair did develop a friendship and kept in touch.

After being friends for a while, the actors decided to give a romantic relationship a try. They stuck it out for about a year before Bellisario broke things off. But, Adams wasn’t willing to let her go that easily. According to an interview that the Suits star did for Popsugar, he did everything in his power to win her back. This included auditioning for Pretty Little Liars, a show that Bellisario was already cast in.
“Troian broke up with me, and I didn’t want to break up,” Adams admitted. “The next day, completely un-ironically, I got an audition for her show, for a very small part on her show. A part that, at that point in my career, I would not have typically gone out for, because it was like, one day of work, on Pretty Little Liars,” the actor shared about his now-wife. Even though he wasn’t super excited about the small part, Adams did everything in his power to prepare for the audition, as he saw it as an opportunity to convince Bellisario to get back together.

“I wanted her back, and so I went after that part with the full force of every single person that works for me in the industry,” Adams confessed. “I had everyone on the phone, calling, saying, ‘We’re going to get this part, we’re going to get this part.’ I prepared for this Pretty Little Liars audition more than I’ve prepared for anything in my life,” Adams shared about his quest to win Bellisario back.
It seems that Adams’ hard work eventually paid off. He was cast in the role of Hardy in the 5th episode of the first season of Pretty Little Liars called “Reality Bites Me”. Funnily enough, Adams didn’t have any scenes with Bellisario. As he was playing the college friend of Aria Montgomery’s love interest and English teacher, Ezra Fitz, there was no reason for his character and Bellisario’s character (Spencer Hastings) to interact.

Fortunately, Adams able to win Bellisario back even though they didn’t share any scenes. Since then, the pair dated, tied the knot, and even welcomed their first child, Aurora Adams. Though they didn’t technically work together on Pretty Little Liars, they did star opposite each other on Suits and on other projects. But how do they handle working and living together? According to Bellisario it’s all about trust.
“Where do I start?” Bellisario stated in an interview with the Daily Telegraph when asked about her tips for working with a partner. “Don’t take it personally? What’s great is that you trust this person implicitly and you’re not going to let each other down. The most important thing is that you’ve got to figure out a way to separate your work from home. That’s a huge challenge, and we don’t always do that,” the Pretty Little Liars star confessed. Though Bellisario and Adams might not have completely mastered working together yet, they’re still doing a great job. We’re sure fans can wait to see what they create together next.
