The Royal Lodge drama continues as Prince Andrew is reportedly in for a “cold and uncomfortable” time ahead. The Duke of York and his older brother, King Charles III, have been at odds about the mansion for some time. In short, they don’t agree on what should happen. The king wants Andrew out and the 64-year-old doesn’t want to leave. Now, it seems, things are about to take a turn for the worse for Andrew and his Royal Lodge lease.

Andrew’s not coming to terms with the ‘reality of the situation’ involving the Royal Lodge

Andrew, a source said via Mirror, needs to realize what’s happening with the so-called “siege of Royal Lodge.” It’s taken him long enough, according to a friend of the king’s. “[It’s] taking longer than desirable to recognise the reality of the situation, even though it is clearly the most sensible course of action.”

“It can be done tidily or untidily. It can be done with grace and dignity or it can be forced upon him,” they added, calling it “all rather sad.” What lies ahead for Andrew are difficult times at the Royal Lodge.

“As things stand, life at Royal Lodge is set to become increasingly cold and uncomfortable for the duke. The only question now is when he will realise [sic] that he has become a prisoner of his own pride.”

Andrew’s lived at the Royal Lodge, the former home of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, since the early 2000s. At the time, he inked a 75-year lease, which he reportedly now hopes his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, will someday take over.

There are only 2 ‘possible options’ for Andrew

As King Charles gets “increasingly frustrated” Andrew is still living at the Royal Lodge, he wants the duke to move to Frogmore Cottage, the former U.K. home of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Andrew’s not budging.

Now, as sources told The Times of London, “the Andrew problem” can be resolved with “only two possible options.”  The Duke of York could (1) find a way to pay for the lodge’s costly expenses himself. Or (2) begrudgingly agree to relocate someplace “more suitable.”

As the back-and-forth between the brothers continues, Andrew has a plan to stay at the Royal Lodge: drag out the proceedings as long as possible.

Meanwhile, King Charles is said to be “reconsidering” how much money he provides Andrew in funding. As part of footing the bill, Andrew’s older brother pays for his security team of 10 at the Royal Lodge.

The security contract supposedly runs out in the fall. It’s not expected to get renewed nor are replacements believed to have be on the way. On top of that, the king may be beyond the “reconsidering” stage as he’s understood to have already initiated the steps to take away Andrew’s funding.

Per the outlet, it’s not necessarily a “punitive step.” Instead, it’s “thought to be a decision of financial pragmatism and a way of securing the duke’s long-term security as he gets older.”

For now, Andrew—and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, reside at the Royal Lodge.
