Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles Have Some of the Most High-Maintenance Food Requests
You may have heard that Prince Charles is one of the most demanding royals. His staffers gave him the nickname the Pampered Prince because he reportedly has to have every daily task done for him and has his valets follow some strict rules. In the years Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall has been married to the future king she picked up on some of those demands too.
Here are some of the outrageous food requests Charles and Camilla make when traveling abroad. Plus, the over-the-top thing they did to make themselves feel at home when they’re not.
Charles and Camilla have food from home shipped to their location
The duke and duchess prefer eating organic fruits and vegetables so if they’re not readily available in a country they’re visiting, they’ll have produce flown to them.
Carolyn Robb, who was Charles’ chef for 11 years, told the Daily Mail that the prince “liked to have his own food with him.” She explained that he would have “piles and piles of cool boxes” of his own produce from Highgrove shipped to their locations.
In the documentary Secrets of the Royal Kitchen, another one of the Prince of Wales’ former chefs, Graham Newbould, said that Charles would make sure his “breakfast box” was sent with him on royal trips.
“Wherever the prince goes in the world, the breakfast box goes with him,” Newbould stated. “He has six different types of honey, some special mueslis, his dried fruit, and anything that’s a bit special that he is a bit fussy about.”
When the couple is set to attend a state banquet or dinner in another country, they send their hosts letters of what they like and do not like to eat. This is something Camilla learned from her husband and recently started doing on solo trips as well.
The Daily Mail noted that “her hosts are now sent a list of the foods she likes and dislikes” ahead of her meals.
The couple brings along their own alcohol too
But it’s not just their food, Charles and Camilla typically bring a stash of alcohol with them when they travel overseas as well. However, that is done for a specific reason.
According to reporter Gordon Rayner, who has covered nearly two dozen royal tours, when they drink abroad it’s often their own alcohol brought from home. Rayner said this is done for security reasons so they don’t risk anyone tampering with their beverages.
“Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall sometimes take their own alcohol so there’s no danger of their drinks being spiked,” Rayner told Conde Nast Traveler (per The Express).
Demand Prince Charles and Camilla made while staying with a friend
When the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall want to enjoy all the comforts from home, they literally have that comfort brought to them.
According to investigative journalist Tom Bower who authored the book Rebel Prince, The Power, Passion and Defiance Of Prince Charles, the pair had their staffers move their entire bedroom sets to a friend’s house they were staying with.
Bower said that the prince sent a truck carrying their furniture before they arrived at their destination to “replace the perfectly appropriate fittings in the guest rooms.”
“The truck contained nothing less than Charles and Camilla’s complete bedrooms, including the prince’s orthopedic bed, along with his own linen,” Bower wrote via the Daily Mail. “His staff had also made sure to pack a small radio, bottled water (for both bedrooms), plus two landscapes of the Scottish Highlands.”
